I mentioned it earlier but Rahane used him much better at the Gabba. I do wonder whether it's a bit of a mindset thing. Sundar was an emergency inclusion in Brisbane so Rahane was perhaps more content to think he should do with what he had on the day and adapt to the bowler's strengths, whereas Kohli has taken more of a "you were picked ahead of tens of thousands of available cricketers, you adapt to my plans or you're not good enough" kind of mindset.

Yeah he bowled much better to the wider line field yesterday, but I still think Plan A for him/Kohli should be a very straight line with close-in leg side fielders, unless the batsman on strike in particular demands differently of course. His main strengths are getting the ball up and down very quickly and getting unexpected bounce. He needs to adjust his length from white ball cricket to be effective in red ball cricket but I think his line can be as it is given that.

Ashwin's current round-the-wicket field would actually be fine for Sundar, but Kohli seems reluctant to set it to Sundar if he's bowling over the wicket for whatever reason.

I agree. If the bowlers were tired they could've rotated the selections in the 2nd test (bring in some of Broad, Stone, Woakes, Moeen).
