Once he gets going Pant doesn’t really have a second gear. He can start slow and accelerate but he just doesn’t slow down and rebuild when the match situation changes.

Really interested to see how our spinners go today and for the rest of this Test. I expect Leach to be the more consistent, more economical and probably more threatening than Bess. However, I anticipate minimal success and still think Jimmy, Archer and Stokes may be our best route to finding the first 10 wickets needed here.
Of course when I said I expect Leach to be the most consistent, more economical and more threatening, I did of course mean Bess! :-)

Great counterattacking innings under pressure by Pant again. So many gems in 17 games, the ultimate uphill skiier. WAG.

Because he wears glasses? Go home.

Go rewatch Headingley 2019 for a sign of his character.
No? When did I say that. I’ve watched a lot of his career and listened to him in the media/ on Tailenders. He speaks candidly, which is great, but doesn’t come across as the most confident in his ability in the first place.

but as I said, hope I’m wrong.

Whatever it takes!!!
if we're talking strictly the last twenty to thirty years it's not a bad shout at all tbh. but that's as much about the competition as anything else.
I am not centuries old like Burger to make these comments. But yes in the last 30-35 years, he is the best easily IMO.

One thing you can say is that India's approach has put significantly more time into the game than you would normally expect. Will probably remove even potentially marginal calls on follow-on enforcement.

India are going to be back on the field and bowling first session tomorrow. Root and co. will grind them for 2-3 more sessions before attempting to bowl out an exhausted side on a ragging pitch on Day 5. Leach will redeem himself with a 5-fer, including Kohli leaving a straight ball to get bowled ala O Keefe.

He was very good, probably the last really high quality "pure" keeper in that sense. Dhoni could do freak things I haven't seen any other keeper match wrt stumpings though.
Yeah.. he basically could get you dismissals out of nowhere really. There are many pure keepers to spin who are very good but MSD was a genius, a level above AFAIC. And somehow he seemed to mess up very little when there were actual chances. You would often see him miss to collect a ball left by the batsman, for example but when it is nicked, he somehow caught it. It was pretty freakish.

Yeah this is all qualified as against spin as in general he was pretty ordinary in England (which, to be fair, he wasn't alone in that respect) when it swung and even had problems in Australia too at times. But yeah I can't think off the top of my head to anyone more able of manufacturing dismissals as a keeper than him in the subcontinent. It certainly makes a difference, as we've seen recently, when you see how even a middling keeper can be a real hindrance if conditions are unhelpful and chances are few and far between.

Yeah, all in the context of "keeping to spin" obviously, which was my original statement.
