Think I asked this previously, but is Hardik fit to bowl? Would love to see him play a part in this series as a neutral
not fit yet, maybe by the 3rd or 4th Tests. Hasn't bowled in a professional game since Nov 2020, who knows how he'll look coming back in.

Vibes of Amazing Adelaide ?
Not a ****ing chance lol This England side is not the best in the last decade or so by a long shot, but one thing I love them for is they just don't **** the bed in tight situations.

I can see India batting big in their first dig so I'm not feeling we've got this in the bag, but we will not lose this test match.

Seriously poor for the whole Indian bowling attack to keep bowling no-balls, but then a lot of them were towards the end of the day when they were tiring.

If England win from here, I will cry.
They have played positive cricket so far and played way better than anyone would have thought, OR the pitch is flat and the Indian batsmen will bury them.

Either ways, happy to see England's approach, if they continue the same way this might get interesting because as usual we'll see Kohli making a few captaincy/selection blunders and not making the most of our resources. Rahane's captaincy would have been a problem for them, his field placements and pro-active thinking really helped in Australia.

Easy to be wise after the event, but a couple of the Indian comms were suggesting the players enjoyed Rahane's more "relaxed" style of captaincy once England's score had ticked over 500.

The obvious inference is Virat has micro managerial tendencies, which, as an outside observer, would seem to fit the general MO he projects.

Clearly though if England had been skittled for 200 they'd have been praising his attention to detail. Success has many fathers and failure is an orphan and all that.

Root's innings was incredible. Toyed with the bowling for the most part. The pitch was always going to give 400-450 in the first innings at a minimum but England needed a big innings to get to that 550-600 mark and take a dominating position and Root delivered. First innings of the series away from home is the perfect time to play a defining captain's knock like that. WAG.

I don't think he should been picked in the first place but gotta feel for Sundar who ended up wicketless being dealt the double blow in the final session today of the nick not being given out with reviews used up and then Rohit dropping an absolute dolly.

Thought the pacers were excellent in the worst conditions possible. Ishant bowling the exact same perfect ball twice to hit the top of off stump was a great moment.

India need to not just not collapse but score at least 450 to prevent risking a home defeat here. They did have the massive innings last time in Chennai and the current batting line up is very strong at home but 450 is a huge score to expect as a minimum.

TBF, Virat's captaincy has been criticised regardless of the outcome. A lot of ex-cricketers & journageeks have backed Rahane.

Also, this game might still swing in India's favour, they might outscore England, my assessment is not based on just this game. I had called it right when the game had started, the team selection was poor, Kuldeep should have played the game instead of Sundar. Sundar was picked because he can bat a bit, that's a negative approach, we can afford to go with 5 proper bowlers in India(and Ashwin can bat, so technically we would have him at number 7 which is not bad at all).

Overall, whether India wins this game or not, we haven't gone with our best XI, that should be a problem, and the captain should be held accountable for that. Plus, Rahane's superior captaincy was evident in Australia, his field placement was great and the players looked much more relaxed under him. So Virat's captaincy is not under scrutiny because of this game, it has always been under question.

Pujara rings a bell isn't it ?
and eng should be dreading this pitch anyway, given how anderson will need a rest if he bowls here for a couple of days

and broad is almost 35 too so if he plays in his place for the second test, on of them won't potentially play the d/n test

If the other strip for the second Test is likely to be as **** as this one, we can bin Sundar and Nadeem, and bring in Siraj and Kuldeep. Seamers have looked better anyway and Nadeem on anything other than a crumbling wicket is little more than garden-variety subcontinental slow make-up-the-numbers. Whose son-in-law is the baniya-turned-curator again?

Yeah, I am speaking too early, but India should try and bat the rest of the match. No hopes of winning here, just tire out the bowlers for the upcoming matches like England did today.
