buttler's batting record in test cricket isn't terrible tbh. as mw1304 says people are comparing his test career to his odi career, where he might well finish the best keeper bat ever.

a keeper averaging 34 is perfectly fine at #7 and h4x at #8.

this is getting really painful now. Eng's h4x tail is going to take them to 700 after all. Anderson has an 80 odd against us and Jack Leach won MOTM for his batting not too long ago.

Just as I type, Ishant strikes. Thank God.
That Trent bridge pitch against you was even more of a road than this.

The leach one was hilarious night Watchman at 3 I think against Ireland at lord's was an absolute road. After they skittled us for 70 or something.

It's an OK record if you're an excellent keeper, which he isn't. He is an ok keeper who averages 34. If he wasn't an ODI great he'd have barely half that amount of Tests.

He's just awful against seam on his off stump in red ball. For an English batsman is bizarre he doesn't know where it is.

Anything else he's great.

Scored 92, don't think he'll ever get that close to a Test 100 again sadly. Was a weird match, Ireland got bowled out for 38 under drizzle and lights with a red-ball in the 4th innings when they needed just 180ish to win. The whole story on Day 1 was them bowling out England for 80 odd, and 3 days later that happens. Made for brilliant viewing tho lol.

maybe, but england could be worse for it if they went searching like they did with openers post-strauss.

sometimes you have to make the most from an average hand.
Yeah he wasn't keeping anyone else out of team who massively deserves it tbf.

I don't think I've known a match make less sense than that one haha. Leach wasn't even it a 3 as nightwatchman, he just straight up opened

And irc the rest of our batting failed in the 2nd innings after Leach was dismissed.
Yep, of all the people for the match-winning partnership to be between, I would not have picked Jack Leach and Jason Roy

of late he's been decent and looked composed. Coming off sl where he played well, I just found it surprising how poor he looked today. doesn't really matter given he's going home after this test.
Maybe mentally he is already switching off. Home to family in a few days. Easily done even for professionals.

Well I think one things for certain him and joff need to swap places. Especially after losing a set batsman to avoid a little flurry.

Joff needs to just do a broad and do his IPL batting. As he's been utterly hopeless in international cricket. Surprisingly in white ball too.

He scored basically no runs domestically for quite a while. I'm not convinced he does much different to Buttler.
Without checking, I think Foakes did better in 2020 than in 2019, and that he was OK in 2018. Better keeper of course.
