Zimbabwe's WTC Squad is a joke!
The ZCB recently announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming WTC.
The only word fit to describe it is 'travesty'
Young stud Bryan Strang, who has had an amazing first season across all formats, and veteran Eddo Brandes were left out to make way for young Black speedster Henry Olonga and some random English club cricketer called Charlie Lock.
Our depth in pace bowling was always going to be our competitive edge, especially with the mandatory rotation policy in place, but we have gone and shot ourselves in the foot by picking two debutants at the start of the most important series of Test Matches in our history.
Granted it's a short history, but nevertheless these are important games, moreso than ordinary Tests, and I cannot believe we've left out two of our best quick bowlers for it. The ROW XI has already snapped up the Chicken Farmer, who took 13 wickets against Pakistan in his last Test series. No doubt he's going to be bowling heat when he comes up against our boys!
And who have we picked in their place? 18 year old Henry Olonga, who has a bit of pace but not too many wickets. Not only that, but this kid is from Keny and also has a dodgy action. ZCB went out of their way to mention that he would be the first ever Black Test cricketer in Zimbabwean history if he plays. Their motives for selecting him couldn't have been clearer. Rushing a young prospect into the top level just to gain political points.
And what about Charlie Lock? The last time he played cricket for Zimbabwe was in 1989! They have literally plucked this bloke out of English club cricket to represent the nation he doesn't even live in anymore? And why? Because he 'impressed the coaches' in the selection training camp. What a ****ing joke. I thought we had moved on past such cronyism in Zimbabwean cricket, but I guess not.
Lock and Olonga are not the only troublesome picks. Ujesh Ranchod -who took a solitary wicket on his Test debut in 1993, albeit that of Sachin Tendulkar- has been picked as second spinner to Paul Strang. What has he done since that game to merit selection ahead of Stephen Peall? He's taken 16 wickets at 60 runs a piece in FC cricket since that Test, while Peall has 35 wickets at 42 in the same time frame. I'm not saying a FC bowling average of 42 is good, but surely it's better than 60???
Bowling is the most important part of Test cricket and we won't be taking 20 wickets a game with this attack. It's a ****ing disgrace.
Batting wise the team picks itself, so no surprises there, but Glen Bruk-Jackson's continued mishandling and omission from the side remains an issue. Craig 'Wishful Thinking' Wishart has a fraction of the potential but continues to get gigs. Hopefully he spends most of the WTC running drinks, and lets the real batters get to work.

I'm planning on using the original backdrops from old-school ICC by exporting the scorecards from CC 2018 & pasting the text on top of the images. Thought it was a good idea since those photos were taken around about that time. Not all grounds were featured in the original game, so the most recent scorecard from P. Sara is one of a few custom-made backdrops that will feature.Yep, Taylor as captain. Thanks!
How were the graphics made?
