Faf is a sitting duck under these conditions. Avg 20 from 16 odd games in sub continent. As much as I like him, don’t know for how long SA can afford him. Bavuma with similar avg too. Elgar has only somewhat better record with avg 30.

Wonderful to see guys who have busted their rears in the domestic scene being rewarded with success and being instrumental in Pak winning their first big test in home soil in a long time. Amazing.

RSA, like SL, lost the game in a couple of hours of batting harakiri. The better sides can put it behind them and come back stronger. Will be interesting to see if they can do the same. I think they can but need Markram, QdK and Faf to step up and Mulder back in the side.

It’s quite unsettling and frankly uncomfortable seeing SA side struggle in Asia. I grew up watching them performing well everywhere especially away from home. Faf needs to go. What good is leadership if it doesn’t deliver the results? Move him to coaching role or something. Bunch of others should be binned as well. Lots of soul-searching and tough decisions ahead.

Imran Butt averages 35 in FC cricket too. That said, I was surprised by the close in catching. They dropped a couple in the match but it was still an improvement overall.

I'll say it until the end: first and second slips are specialist positions and you can't just throw a generically Really Good Fielder in there and expect them to be any good for quite a while

(and you absolutely should not do what we and a few other sides have done and throw 'the guy who is a crap fielder but is a batsman and you can't find a good spot for them in the ring or boundary' in there)
