A caller, identified as Richard, said that Māori were “victims of their own genetic background. They’re genetically predisposed to crime, alcohol, and underperformance educationally.”

With Banks declining to interject, Richard continued, saying he was not interested in learning about, or having his children learn about “their stone age culture.”


When Banks next spoke, he said “your children need to get used to their stone age culture, because if their stone age culture doesn’t change, these people will come through your bathroom window.” The comments have been widely condemned on social media.

Yeah I kind of expected it to be a bit of a storm in a teacup when I first heard about it without the details ("John Banks endorsed a caller by not correcting him or cutting him off" seemed a bit ugh to me as an argument), but that's undeniably extremely racist. What Banks said himself was actually worse than what the caller said!

Read this yesterday and thought that's pretty good.

Last year over in kapiti one of the teams refused to take the field for on field racial slur and the game called off. I thought cricket shouldn't have come to that. Now this.

The indirect effect of this idiotic behavior by one or two idiotis costs the station and few others their jobs. I've seen first hand how some get abused for no reason. If you try to reason with the abusers they abuse you instead.

There was one time I was helping out a rep team and was told by couple of kids one of our boys called the opponent kid the unmentionable(racist). That wasn't good. We spoke to the kid that abused and made him realize that wasn't on. Was hoping the opponent team's coach filed a complaint and we take proper action such as standing our boy down for couple of games but he chose to tell the abused kid to move on and not to make a fuss. It hurts to this day we didn't take an appropriate action. The kid that abused is a nobody at cricket today and the kid that got abused is going to be a legend at cricket. Sometimes I wonder if the kid that abused still follows cricket and hurts everytime he sees the kid he abused is going places.

I don't know why this keeps repeating. We have a history of hosts consistently treading this line. Lots of them in fact. Why do they keep doing the same ****? Why do known offenders keep getting gigs and make it look at bad? Henry, Holmes and lots more have been downright racists but get swept under with an apology or two. These sort of guys shouldn't be on any public platform.

That article mentions Banks saying very similar stuff back in 2000! Twenty goddamn years later and he’s still being given a huge platform to sprout this racist crap. Absolutely pathetic from those in power that makes these decisions.

magic talk is trash. usually its boomer radio at its finest if you want a laugh but even for that station that call was next level and good on sponsors for walking. that station has needed an uppercut for a while. even ancient tories deserve better representatives.

Could have been misconstrued as racist? Generic negative statements? I am not racist? **** off. Makes you even smaller for being a racist who won't pick his sacks up and admit you are. Piece of ****. The sooner that ignorant racist element of society (ie the 60+ brigade) are dead and buried is the day we can get on being an inclusive nation where anyone is welcome, especially our native race.

It’s just the same as any Māori issue that comes up in the media and radio and tv current affairs shows bring in Don Brash as NZ’s most well loved racist for his point of view. I’m ****ing over it.

I used to have talk back running all the time when driving years ago. Either it had to be talk back or radio sport. Don't repent the time spent on radio sport but I'm now thinking how am I going to get those hours back I spent listening to talk back and getting worked up. What was I thinking?
