4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

and here's another classic Stray Observation; today was the culmination of india's efforts throughout the series led by pujara to bat time. even cummins in those last couple of overs was looking fatigued, and you don't get that unless you've continuously and systematically put overs into him for a very long time.

the ashwin and vihari resistance on day five in sydney, for example, immediately preceding this test on the short turnaround, definitely would have factored in to the mileage in the legs of the aussie bowlers.
also a factor is the mental exhaustion. The sydney blockathon got them tired, frustrated and digging deep. Once they were put into that position again here today, and were running in to bowl dot ball after dot ball to Pujara for the umpteenth time this series, you could see the intensity and focus flag a bit. Pujara wore them down physically and mentally.

To be fair they basically did exactly what we said they should at the start of the day - don't worry about the target and just bat normally until tea, then think about having a crack if they're only 2 or 3 down. There was no need for Pujara to do anything other than what he did for the first session, as we found out. Laxman is basically tasting the fact that they won tbh.

I think only Rahane's innings was particularly... adventurous. Pant has a Test strike rate of 68 and had 35 off 80 balls.
Im telling you Rahane set the whole win up.

This isn’t the time to rationalise. This is the time to dig posts for likes

Australia were ranked number 1 coming off a series win in NZ and SL hadn't won **** for so long. Additionally Aust had previously beaten a much stronger SL side with Herath with a considerably worse side
Nah but Australia were demonstrably hopeless against spin during the Lehmann years though.

if only that ***** fella who used to post here was around for this series. would've loved it, to see the fight and the grit from team india and i really would've enjoyed it if he posted in the match threads

now on a completely unrelated note congrats to cnerd123 on seeing the india win

We have fit Warner, Labu, Smith, Green, Cummins & Haze

That’s a lot of holes to fill
Regardless of the form, you'd consider Starc and Lyon as good players. Yes they were pants here but should not discount years of work. Pucovski is a star if he over comes obvious issues with concussions

As mentioned, they should not panic and I assume that even a draw here would have been alright but this definitely brings the house down.

Can someone assess that missed stumping by Paine? Was it very, very difficult or just difficult? It was obviously one of the turning points of the test and the series. If Pant had been dismissed I think India could have held out for the draw but a win would have been unlikely.

I don't see how he could gathered the ball and swung it down on the stumps in one action, and by then Pant would have grounded his bat.

that was not a chance at all

pant's bat was lightning quick to come back down behind the crease

even msd wouldn't havve been able to whip the bails off fast enough

So only two players from the first test playing 11 survived the full series for India while Aus made only two changes from first to last test.

Who would have thought.
