In theory yes but knowing where Khawaja and Pucovski should bat is another question. Khawaja realistically can't bat below 3 but moving Pucovski from opening for a 34 year old isn't really something Australia should be going for, given Warner's not exactly young either.
Pucovski is usually a #3 though. #3s get blooded at 6 anyway

True, I don't disagree with that. But moving someone between opening and 5 depending on the circumstance risks really muddling with his potential. If Australia's batting depth was better I wouldn't really worry that much.....but the amount of top-class batsmen coming through is very small, Australia really can't afford to burn a talent because they ****ed around with him to fill other holes.

If they do go down this path, they'll have to give him a long enough rope like Williamson and Babar. IIRC Ponting was patchy until late 2001 too but you can't just move past a guy breaking every domestic record before turning 20. Same should apply IMO.

Whatever it takes!!!
Saini bowling at 50% might actually be doing him good here. Hitting decent line and length at medium pace and getting some bounce and movement

I have a feeling they might take McDermott to South Africa. His FC record is pretty medicore (averages 34 and only has two tons), but one of those tons was in Australia A's last game, he's having a good Shield season (no tons but four 50s including a 90 and averaging 59) and he's clearly talented. Relatively young too.

I would absolutely not be my pick - I'd rather recall Head - I could see them going that way.

There's a few starting to misbehave a bit here, but they're on a pretty shortish length.
