He probably isn’t but he’s had two very ordinary games on the trot and it’s arguably cost Australia the series. And while I don’t entirely agree with trundler’s stuff he’s never felt to me like he’s consistently special. At this stage I’d give Richardson a go to show if he actually is consistently really good.

That's the crux IMO. Starc has often been painted as leader of the attack pretty much since Johnson retired, when it's simply not been the case. If he had exactly the same figures but was right handed he would be more realistically rated.

I reckon it would be so much better in the hands of a better captain who could actually control the frustrations of the team rather than giving into them and was disciplined and consistent about enforcing proper bowling plans. Paine has let this game drift so hard since Pant got out.
