johnny bairstow (england)
matthew wade (australia)

-
jos buttler (england)
-

The lack of Devon Smith here is deeply disturbing imo

trying to avoid guys who are probably gone forever, otherwise devon smith, martin guptill and shaun marsh are all in.

Ishant would have been an absolute shoo in here for ages, he's somewhat ruined that by actually getting good

And Devon will be back, I'm almost certain of it. Depressing

Murali Vijay? He was a good player overall, but if memory serves me he was in and out of the XI constantly around 2014-2018. Not sure if he's officially retired from tests

murali vijay is actually good though imo; i think the ethos of this thread is dudes who, like with that ex who cheats but is let back in bc you are the one who can change them, keeps finding their way back in to the team despite sucking and not deserving it, thinking things would be different

Yeah that's true
I know JP Duminy has recently retired, but he strikes me as a guy prime for this thread. Didn't realise he averaged only 32 across 46 tests

For a thread where it's entitled "Recently retired back to the wall XI" he'd be in there for me
