Just like at the SCG, I think this is an under par total against a normal batting side. But we are without Virat and playing Sundar at 7 and 3 #11s. So if 400 is the regular par, 350 is par for this Indian batting line up. Still think it is as good as the effort in Sydney to keep them down to this total. All on the batsmen now. Hopefully they can deliver at least this once on this tour.

India has got Australia out for a competitive score here which they had absolutely no right to do.

Australia still had because they have 380 on the board at the G but not ahead by as much as they should be.

They're playing at the hallowed turf that is The Gabba. Please don't sully its pristine reputation by calling it 'the G' and thus inviting the mistake of thinking it is that COVID-ridden cesspit others call 'The MCG'.

I can't believe there hasn't been more criticism of Paine's shot. It was a real half volley that he didn't move his feet to get to. A top 7 batsman should be dispatching that to the fence. Yes it swung a bit but that doesn't excuse the fact that Paine was off balance through he shot because his footwork was very poor. It was just as bad of a shot as Wade's. It just didn't look like it because he played a poor straight bat shot instead of cross bat shot.

And it caused a collapse which saw India take the last 5 wickets for 60 odd runs.

Also, good to note Indian openers will get a decent break to ponder the meaning of universe et all, although I still expect the batting lineup to crumble here.

And notwithstanding my vagene theory, goosebumps thinking what a full strength Indian bowling would've done here.

It swung, but not at great pace and not late. It was a rank ball and it was terribly played. Just watch Paine's footwork. He was off balance when he played it. It should have been smoked for 4.

And to @Starfighter s earlier point of India being "let" back into the match, I would say the dropped catches by India let Australia get away a lot more than the loose shots helped India.

Nah, you dont get to play on first day Gabba bouncy road against a 3rd level attack for your country that often and most batsmen would be just as annoyed if they leave as many runs as Smith did on the wicket there.
