*Official* England in Sri Lanka 2021

Mickey Arthur would be the worst poker player.

I mean his righteous fury is kind of deserved considering how badly Sri Lanka have played, but you get the feeling even if they were miles ahead in this game, one loose delivery would redden him.

Certainly enjoying the cameras being on him, isn't he

After Day 1 I felt a bit flat. It was a great position to be in, don't get me wrong, but Bess got lucky as Sri Lanka were so abject. Then Crawley threw his wicket away and it took a little building again from Root and YJB to get where they needed to be. The top performers were the old stagers and the young pups fell short.

However, on Day 2 I'm excited about the England future once again. Root showing his old class and form and a young batsman who brings confidence with his play. You feel that England have now earned the strong position rather than having been gifted it. I think we are already in the position where England don't need to pad up twice.

Dan Lawrence I thought is still a young inexperienced player but he's kind of a veteran with 74 first class games to show. Glenn Phillips who's like a year older than him and has similar CV has played 34 first class games.

85%+ of Sri Lanka’s overs bowled by the same 3 bowlers. They might as well have gone with two more specialist batsman if their number 11 was only going to bowl 60 balls out of 600.

Shame about the rain as Root could have got 300+ here. Looks like they want to be bowling after lunch.

I’m not saying it would have changed much but only bowling this guy 9 overs by the 102nd was absolutely dopey.
Kinda feels like one of those "captain and selection panel don't really agree" moments. Usually such a fill in captain wouldn't flex his power in this way, but with Chandimal not only being a former captain but someone with an axe to grind against the selectors, I can see that being the rationale.

Shanaka could have quite easily bowled his overs if this was the plan.

Yeah feels that way, looks like a proper mug now though.
Should have gone Shanaka and Fernando with the 2nd new ball.

Incidentally, Dilruwan will be absolutely filthy about Curran's golden, given his left/right split and the fact that after 104 overs a left hander finally came in to bat.
