Yeah, he fortunately doesn't get the perennially "young and up and coming" tag which 37 yo Shaun Marsh still sometimes gets.

Whatever it takes!!!
The players from straight from UAE to Australia yea? Given the circumstances in India, the BCCI probably thought that was much easier and safer (Covid-wise) than letting them return to India for a while in between.
Yeah but a couple of weeks at home (where they can still stay reasonably safe) and then retesting them and then getting them on a flight could have helped with the bubble fatigue.

definitely would have helped, but perhaps wasn't a feasible idea given the way the world is.

I believe Smith actually talked after he'd gotten out the second time cheaply at Melbourne that the extra-long separation from family, unbroken, was taking a much bigger mental toll on him than he'd expected. I don't think it's entirely coincidental that he looked more his normal self-batting wise after he was able to see his wife again in Sydney, so you're probably right that it would have been wise had the Indian team been able to have a brief home break between this series and the IPL.

TBF, the board did try their best and allowed players to travel with family etc. But there are folks who can't get their families to travel due to their personal situations, like Natarajan and Hardik etc. They (BCCI) did try their best given the circumstances but they could have created better circumstances for themselves by shortening the duration of the IPL for sure.

I think BCCI could have made this a lot better experience by travelling with a big contingent - and enable the residual players to play A games with Shield sides and /or A sides they are available, while staying part of the Big Bubble throughout. Replacements would be seamless and overall mental makeup of players that much more better. Not to mention the valuable exposure second or third preference players will get.

Having some A games would have helped Australia too, given their choice in case of more injuries was to call up players playing the BBL. A rather win-win situation for everyone concerned but somehow did not happen.

This is interesting. Wasn't aware families have travelled with players. Actually I dont think anyone would have opted for this.

India sent a pretty large squad + a few guys like Natranjan, Tyagi, Sundar, etc who are these just to train with the side while not actually a part of the Test squad. Plus all the support staff.

Could have sent more players, just think they did not anticipate so many players getting injured during the series. The SMAT was scheduled to be played as well, so understandably they'd want the fringe guys playing that rather than being out in Aus.
