Such a small bloke by god. Wonder how he stacks up to James Taylor and Bavuma? @thierry henry

I'm also reminded of the brief tenure of Reece Young and him getting smashed in the face during the Australia tests of 2011. Although I think he's been mentioned already.
Really hard to find good comparison pics of Van Wyk. Taylor is an interesting one because at his official height of 5’6” he wasn’t even really that short (numerous subcontinental cricketers that height or shorter) but he really seems more 5’4ish? Still taller than the likes of Mushfiqur and Mominul.

Ian Butler was an interesting guy. 2002-2005 he played here and there without much success, seemingly always picked because he was express pace, but never actually bowled anything beyond low 140s.

After several injuries he came back in 2008-2009 and was supposedly now an all-rounder who bowled medium pace. In reality he had only changed slightly...142kph had become 135kph and he was now a serviceable number 9 or at a push number 8 bat.

I really just recall his comeback in 2008/9 but apparently he played a T20I as recently as 2013?!?

Whatever it takes!!!
WAs just thinking about him yesterday reading this thread, lol. The Aussie opening bowler who bowls with the keeper up to the stumps.

How about Michael Mason? A solid but unremarkable little ODI contribution of 31 wickets @ 33.
Much like Butler’s career post-2009, this astounded me. I like to think I have a pretty good recall of who played and when, but I really have almost no recollection of Mason in internationals beyond playing Pakistan and South Africa in 2003/4. I’m staggered that he played as many as 26 ODIs, and as recent as 2010.

What about Ian Harvey? All the Ch 9 commentators kept going on about how good he was, but he was basically a prototype NZ provincial ODI cricketer - handy medium pacer, adequate batsman, quality fielder.

Just checked - apparently played 73 odis for the best one day team of all time. Mind blown

Yeah I feel like the likes of Harvey and Hopes played too many games to really be ‘guys’ but I guess the definition is pretty fluid

If you'd asked me how many ODI wickets Michael Mason took, I'd have said about 5.

Anyone mentioned Rob Nicol? Played over 20 ODIs and 20 T20Is, mostly between late 2011 and early 2013 - basically the span of Ross Taylor’s captaincy. His career basically consisted of bullying Zimbabwe and getting bullied by South Africa.

I really just remember him as someone who I don’t think anyone really thought was good enough? He had been a promising teenaged batsman a decade earlier but settled into a fairly mediocre domestic career before finding a niche as a domestic limited overs basher who bowled a bit.

Chris Drum - he'd finally got a few tests for NZ then retired. Was good for Auckland though.

Carl Bulfin - a star of Cricket Max and pretty quick
