*Official* Pakistan in New Zealand 2020/21

Was a lot less to do back then ... Shell Cup was on one of our 2/3 tv channels (regular season games included) throughout summer so got a decent audience in that way, I think.

So many more options for how to spend your free time now, and NZ cricket is more hidden away on pay tv than it used to be. You're lucky to even get the domestic scores on the 6pm news now.

Exactly, but doesn’t seem to make sense looking back on it given we were average back then and therefore the depth and standard was surely lower than now?
Wasn't this more a reflection of the pre-internet & pay tv era in NZ? Shell Cup was on tv 1 and there weren't many other entertainment/viewing options. Domestic rugby had far bigger crowds too.

Heaps of games on TV1 and Duke this season though.

Shell Cup was huge in the mid-90s. Larsen batting with a broken hand in the final, Richard Petrie, Mark Douglas, etc.
Exactly. The Shell Cup was massive and often full houses at the Basin, and there was intense rivalry between the teams. These days it's all a bit too friendly. The difference to today I think is that back then the NZ team players would play, these days they don't due to more international cricket.
The same applies to the NPC in the 90s and matches at Athletic Park.

Yep, I'm hoping that leads to a bigger audience, but again ... so many options now, I'm not sure.

Good point about the NZ players often used to be involved as well. Will be good when they are back in the Super Smash after this test.

Fleming has a point though, it’s weird in retrospect that NZ domestic cricket in the 90s seemed quite big at times, when in theory it should be a lot bigger now? Is it just a case of NZ generally caring more about internal rivalries back then?
There was space in the calendar for domestics.

What I'm surprised by is with the Super Smash being live on YouTube, it still gets a very poor following. I'm watching most of the games now, and there are hardly more than 1,000 people watching it. I'm hoping it picks up so they don't stop doing it.

Surprised at those numbers. There are currently 2,000 people looking at a cover in the rain delayed Pakistan A game. I also watched Caribbean domestic games on YouTube with thousands of viewers and Chanderpaul's son was batting and he had about 10 off 70 balls. Proper grim stuff and it was still getting some traction.

Trash over from Boult. Then finishes with a ripper.
Wonder why was Jamieson taken off, his spell just before lunch was tremendous. Boult was pretty disappointing in favorable conditions in the morning and that one over released the pressure somewhat.

I tend to watch the Super Smash on Spark Sports

I don't think it helps that for some reason the Super Smash feed is blocked to people in India and Pakistan. I gave it to some friends over there and they couldn't access it, unfortunately, so I'm not actually sure what countries are allowed. I'm assuming the Pakistan A feed is opened up to people in Pakistan and most of the viewers are from there.

Just catching up on the morning's play, relieved to see Jamieson keeping that test bowling average under 15

Looking past the WTC for a moment, we have a tour of India scheduled for the end of the year. Assuming it goes ahead, Jamieson has to be picked. Who misses out Southee or Boult?
Southee > Boult pretty clearly on current form. Probably have to go back 18 months plus for a time when Boult was ahead, he got within less than ten of Southee's career wicket tally iirc and looked like he would overtake it. Difference is now 25.
