next test is hagley oval? i think they'll return to henry if needed but i wouldn't be averse to duffy as the form bowler with some talent behind him.

though if we could get some red ball cricket in ajaz southee/boult/jamieson/ajaz/mitchell also works.

I'm not really a Santner belieber, but Santner is not a complete waste IMO.

When we're playing 4 seam bowlers I don't mind him in the lineup. Think he even could've bowled a bit more today.

Think he might also be useful for a quickfire 20 odd tomorrow too

I can imagine in a previous era the selectors taking a punt on Ben Sears (assuming he were injury free).

Huh just forgot Azhar got 141 v England last Summer which was obviously a fine effort. Its a very tricky situation for Pakistan atm.

I don't think Alam or Azhar have much long term to add to Pakistan, but is their an other batsman bar Saul who can fill a spot?

Having slept on it, I suppose Azhar has enough good will earned that he deserves the next home series no matter what he does in NZ , but if Alam wasn't such a mess then his departure would be sped up for sure.

Prior to that knock he was really struggling and even with the runs he has scored when games and series are well lost, he still averages under 20 away from home in the past two years. Watching him in England, Australia, South Africa and now here, everything just seems a bit too quick for him. He may have a purpose at home or in the UAE, but touring may be past him at this point.

I’d hope the declaration was not much past lunch, we probably need another 180 or so in 40 overs to feel like we have enough overs to bowl them out and enough that they won’t chase it if they get hot (bearing in mind our spinner is bog average)

So vital to win this Test, with India likely to win in Melbourne and from memory 3 wins out of 6 before the Championship final would trump us winning 2-0

"That will leave India needing five wins - or four wins and three draws - out of their last eight Tests (away against Australia and at home against England) to deny New Zealand a place in the WTC final to be played at Lord's in the English summer. "

If Wags isn't able to play in the second test, who plays in his spot? Lousy timing with the 20/20's happening atm.
Not Henry. This is 4th seamer, he hasn't been effective as 3rd seamer in previous turns.

Out of Duffy, Bracewell . I'd put forward Tickner as wild card. Quite effective 3rd seamer I think at 'A' level, (I haven't checked this).

If CdG was available, then ajaz spin would be logical selection. I dont think Mitchell is any where near CdG level, but us tidy enough.

Maybe D Bracewell and Ajaz double change? But doubt selectors would be that radical / disruptive for a single injury.

Annoying that a month ago we had 6 quality seamers competing for 4 spots but already burned beyond that depth. no Ferg chance :(

What exactly would the selectors have to gain by picking Henry? He's 100% a known quantity, had ample oppurtunities but has consistently failed to make any use of them.

Would literally pick any bowler in all of NZ except Scummy Scott ahead of him

Tom 'Henry Nicholls' Latham this morning. Though they're all off Abbas bowling slow who, when played with soft hands, seems to be nigh on impossible to nick at catchable height.

latham not helping his rep against proper new ball attacks atm, so would be good to see him go big in the next three innings

watched his knock in the english test at headingley the other day. everything is there he just doesn't score the runs he should

It's almost getting to the point where the constant posts about Stevenson actually annoy me slightly more than Stevenson himself, and that takes some doing.

(and yes, I realise the irony)
