2nd Test at the MCG, Melbourne, 26 Dec - 30 Dec 2020

Whatever it takes!!!
He'd probably benefit from moving state or getting county time outside of the Redbacks coaching system given all the SA left handers have a remarkably similar way of going about things.
County deal should be doable if he is dropped for a period from the national side, surely?

EDIT: Think that would be the best for him coz as the overseas professional you are expected to make the big runs and lead the side day in and day out from a batting PoV and it might help him discover a template which helps him concentrate better especially when he has gotten a start.

The worst ball in world cricket? The ball that allowed a county plodder like Adam Voges to average 70 odd in test cricket at one point.
You're a batting qanoner and a revisionist. All of his tons were made in relative difficulty and you can't discredit a man for being so good that he just piles on runs after runs after runs.

Like a couple of years at least. A Travis Head renaissance isn't completely out of a question.

I doubt he's getting help in the national setup coaching and it's all Smith's fault really. Technical advice has now been proven to be 19th century rhetoric and the mantra is probably "you do you man, just trust your technique." It's like me telling myself to trust myself to have a good time in the night while knowing each time I end up vomiting on my own shoes.

git gud @ bowling

the mighty southern hemisphere don't seem to have any issues with it

i despise the duke. any ball that turns jesse ryder and post injury jimmy franklin into vicious beast opening bowlers should never be taken seriously.

why bowl with effort when you can waddle in at 115kph and smash poles?

**** I wonder if there could actually be a lot of truth to this

I am not sure I think it is a technique issue with Head at all, tbh. If you are driving at balls when you have made 20 odd, the ones you were letting go when you were in single digit scores, it is a mental thing more than technique, to me.

I'm sure they give technical advice in all seriousness, but I do wonder if that meme gets overplayed. Look at Burns, the man has trusted his technique all his life and look what its brought him.

it's kinda hard to tell what you're doing technically. i mean this is obvious, but i had no idea i was "closing the gate" rather than playing straight from the get go until i was told. tbf im not worth telling, i can't bat.

it gave me newfound sympathy for joe burns and his angled bat to cover a week later

It's a mixture of both IMO. His technical issue mostly presents itself when he tries to attack deliveries that are a little wide of off stump, but early on in his innings he can just leave them alone. It's when he gets set, and feels like he can open up a bit more, that it rears its ugly head. That's probably why he seems to get so many starts but doesn't cash in (those twin dismissals at third man -- after he'd batted very well -- at Perth the last time India here stick particularly in the memory). But he had a pretty rough time in England against the inswinging ball as well, really had his forward defensive look suspect there, iirc he was lbw/bowled quite a bit.

Every few years a random indian trundler usually goes to England and rolls them over bowling gentle 120kph outswingers. From roger binny to RP singh to Bhuvi ( :( ). Its like cycling without taking the baby training wheels off. Safe, predictable, ideal for children, but also embarrassing for anyone with a degree of self respect.

OS you have been so on point the last week or so. Quick singles being wastes of time and now this. Is there anything you can't do at the moment?

This has probably been covered earlier but regardless of the result of this Test, which I would say is poised about 60% / 40% in India's favour due to India's suspect batting line up and Australia's strong lower order, I think Umesh's injury is very worrying. Saini and Siraj feels a far cry from Shami and Ishant!
