but also they've fallen into "good cricketer = good commentator" trap
I feel like this happens to every nation, like I can't think of a single country that hires commentators on TV because of their skill. I think the bottom line is that commentating for the cricket on TV is just plain difficult. Even the "good" teams can be pretty damn boring at times, it's just inoffensive which the Aussie teams often aren't.

The edge past first slip seems to have sucked the momentum out of Australia. It's going to be tough to come back.
Doesn't help that the ball is basically a sponge at this point. Not a lot of assistance out there until the new ball rolls around.

Would be better if Green was Watto with the bat and MMarsh with the ball, instead of vice versa

Saw these excuses last time too. Australi's bowling just falls apart when under the pump.

It's bait but I do honestly think Australia's attack (Cummins notwithstanding) does seem at least a little bit brittle when the going gets tough. In fairness though you could probably point the finger at basically every other attack in the world when it comes to that.

they've got the opposition 5/220 on a deck that's not doing a lot with a 75 over ball, geez. this problem here is 150% the first innings batting, not the bowling.

Headingley 2019. They either roll you over or get plastered.
That took an ATG innings for England to chase down, a poor example. Better examples would be the second half of the last Indian series or that South African series.

yeah in both cases yes the bowling attack really fell to pieces mentally. but that literally has nothing to do with what's going on here.

I think he's right tbh. They looked mentally done. Past-tense.
