2020/21 New Zealand Domestic Season

Cheers. Just started having a look. Mowat from CD looks really good in opening spell. His wicket is cut from the stream, though.

Disclaimer. Front on camera, and slightly lower angle than what am used to for normal televised cricket. Can get me over excited.

Quite green for a white ball pitch, though.

Little bit of ah... Andrew Ellis to that bowling action?

The other opening bowler Achary is more elegant and aesthetic, which as we all know is the single most important factor for approval.

I see Adi Ashok's wrong 'un vs. the Northern Districts No. 5 panned out in a predictable fashion. Tim Pringle did seem to have a clear plan though and that was reverse-sweeps galore. Got two away but then fell at the other end.

Angus Sidey looks a handy pace bowler for Canterbury under 19's. I see he was in the WC squad last year.

Did he? I had him down as one of the better ones I saw to miss wc selection. Must have been an injury replacement, wasn't in original squad.

Quite a lot of last years u19 wc team were obviously 1 year young compared to the cutoff date. So, some mitigation ...

Oops, you are right he was on stand-by. He had earlier been picked for the abandoned under 19 tour to Bangladesh.

Just looking at the scores Benji Culhane is leading a good engine room effort for Otago. He should probably be further up the order.* Also, Hutt Hawks player Baajul Gandhi has taken a few of the ND top order with his off-spin.

*UPDATE: Otago were 9 down and Culhane was on 42 when I posted the above, he ended up with 123 off 94
balls. He scored a century on his Hawke Cup debut a few weeks ago too.

Unfortunate end for CD to lose in the final over, underarm throw from the bowler hitting the helmet.

Stuff report on the Culhane innings.

Of last years U19 squad. Ashok is young enough to make the next world cup as well. Only one, I think.
Tim Pringle, who didn't make the final squad, but played some of the lead up youth ODIs, misses the cut for next tournament by 2 days.

Wheeler-Greenall also close, but misses 2022 cutoff by a few months.

Yeah I know Ashok and Abbas were the main two that the long-range forecasters were tipping to be the strong players for NZ U19 in 2022.

Anyway, the final morning of the U19 tournament and it's looking very strong for Canterbury now. Wellington 107/6 after 17 overs and behind in this T20 against Auckland. They would also need ND to win.

A chance to see if Millard has become very casual about his cricket over the last 12 months (as the scorecards sort of suggest) coming up on this stream shortly.

Very much Canterbury's sort of opening bowler, that Zak Foulkes. "We retain a thrifty farming man's mindset. The cart-before-horse joy you all find in the speed gun doesn't win many games" sort of fare.

Yes he's running after the ball okay, but there's clearly something wrong and he's not the bowler he was last December.

Ollie Newton out with a stress fracture. Ben Sears: No details. Cricket Wellington's media often just forgets Sears is anything more than an obscure James Hartshorn or something.

Last summer’s standout Super Smash bowler Ollie Newton is still unavailable due to a lumbar stress fracture.

Tomorrow’s match will be a celebration of cricket and Christmas as Cricket Wellington open the Basin Reserve gates and offer free entry as part of the Christmas Eve at the Basin initiative – play gets underway from 10.10am.

geez there's some thin looking squads around atm with half the country in some sort of senior nz squad, A squad or even the big bash.

we've got about a month between pakistan and australia iirc. chance for a top quality white ball comp? minus lockie and milne sadly.
