Didn't do much wrong? He completey shanked it. Tbf the shot was definitely on and probably should have been hit into the stands but he couldn't have hit it much worse.
It wasn't the best shot but the majority of times it would've been clear I think, plus as you said the ball was there to be hit.

The difference between these sides has been the patience of their batsmen.
Yeah not having a Pujara equivalent is biting right now. Though I think India seem to be getting more out of the pitch than Australia did as well, Burns and Wade did show patience and were undone by great deliveries.

What was worse was Smith not digging in.

Not just that. India have been better in nearly every way. Even the one Aus batsman that made runs got half of them through edges and should have been out like 4 times by now.
But those chances have largely been through a lack of patience.

Pujara gave a bunch of half chances too yesterday but he toughed it out. The Aussie batsmen haven't.
