There was a small chance that the run out would've not been given. If Wade had not looked to return to the crease at the last moment, he would've been not out because u can be run out only when you're intending to take a run. Happened with Pandya vs Aus in Kolkata once. #AUSvIND

"would have been not out had he not tried to get back in his crease" would have been exactly the ending that sequence deserved

(although i don't think that's exactly the rule that would have been applied)

yeah if there was a quirky run out rule that applied it would have been "cannot be run out if under misapprehension that you have been dismissed"

that was a pretty average innings by maxwell given the short boundary
