Very impressed by our seam attack. Helpful conditions, but all four are bowling superbly and causing problems for the batsmen.

Turned it on for the first time in a couple of days. Immediately treated to a riveting conversation about ice cream.

The worst part is that I've actually heard that Rigor story before.

Lol one of the all-time favourite NZ commentary anecdotes. To be fair, I've watched most of the game and that's the only time I've really thought "this is boring pointless banter"

We need the rest of the day to be rained off and then back to the sunshine tomorrow. We're not equipped to deal with that sort of movement, we don't have a Kane.

Clinical display in helpful conditions. Still think this season's Kookaburra is swinging more and staying hard longer than recent seasons too.

I'm looking forward to the next time New Zealand think they should play a spinner, and Jamieson gets dropped instead of Southee. CW will be stoked, I'm sure.

Am I allowed to feel a little aggrieved that we've batted under grey skies and NZ got cloudless Skys? Feel like that has rather ruined this match as a contest.

Not that our batting is good enough anyway, but I thought we had a chance of batting out the day at least if conditions remained the same.

Alas it wasn't meant to be. We'd probably have folded anyway.

I'm starting to like four seamers + Philips at six with his part-time spin more and more for home matches. Unlikely if CDG fit, though he may only have a season or two left in him. Philips can play a similar sort of cash-in innings to set up a declaration too, while would be better at arresting a collapse.

Just the way it goes. Good reward and a chance for statz padding for our seamers who have toiled away on many a green road under clear skies in the past.

If Watling is fit for the next match then does Young miss out?

All these middle-order batsmen waiting in the wings may hasten Taylor’s retirement. He may feel he’s holding them back.Tendulkar he is not.

Conway should take up offies tbh.

Not a fan personally, just because I think it's terrible for the development of spin bowlers in NZ. Why take up spin if you know you're only going to get a couple of games a year when NZ goes on tour? Would really like to see the pitches oriented back towards a situation where spinners come into the game in the later stages.

Yeah you'd assume so. I'm not sure drastically changing Blundell's role from game to go is really all that necessary given the current batting depth, and I'm sceptical of him as a Test opener long term, but Young certainly didn't do anything that would've changed the presumed first choice top six and I don't think he'll bat again here.

The intensity of the Kiwi contingent's hatred for Southee truly baffles me.
I think it's really only for limited overs cricket though. Zinzan was grumpy about Southee's place in the team a few years ago, and after the WC a few of us started thinking he might be past it. But in terms of consistent results its hard to argue that Southee's been NZ's best bowler in tests for the past few seasons.
