yeah think this is pretty well spot on. To the point where his bowling improvement has somehow led them to hope against hope he will come good again with the cue, which I frankly can’t see happening again.

the other problem is he really needs to bat in the top four, stylistically. And he isn’t up to it. If he could work more ones and rotate the strike to go with his ball striking ability he could do a really good job at 6 or 7 as an A/R.

But as things stand atm, Green or even Abbott would be a better option imho, given Marnus would go to four, Maxwell & Carey five and six
What if Stoinis bats 4 and you get to play Green at 6 or 7?

I don’t think he’s a better four than Marnus tbh, and I think he’s too limited to bat in the Maxwell/ Carey spots in the order because he can’t rotate the strike and is a one trick pony. Marnus hasn’t really had enough chances to prove himself yet - today was a lose/ lose forhim coming in with five overs to go, but if you’re 2/40 odd I know I’d rather a genuinely class player walking out rather than a biff & barge merchant like Pipes. On balance I think a middle order of Marnus then Green/ Maxwell/ Carey in any order given the circs of the game may be the way to go.

Ended up a damp squib but it was basically an exercise in batting with both teams bowling both sides of the wicket and the catching was ****ing woeful

What are the three stars above the emblem on the India kit? Kit is a winner btw. Love the retro look

good insights and interview from Kohli there post-match. No more of that please, don’t want to be thinking of him as human

Apparently it's representative of their WC wins:

some obscure website said:
Famous sport accessories making company ‘Nike’ introduced these three stars on the jersey of Indian cricketers after Indian victory in 2011 World Cup.

‘Nike’ is the official kit sponsor of Indian Cricket team and which provides uniform to Indian cricket team for a match as well as practice session. Official kit sponsorship rights have been awarded to Nike for ₹370 crore for 5 years from 2016 to 2020.

The basic reason behind the display of three stars on cricketer’s jersey to represent India’s three world cup wins till date.

Dropping Marnus for Stoinis even though he'd be the sixth bowler would be a particularly weird move.
You do realize I am one of the biggest Marnus fans here, surely? :p

I understand that but given these are JAMODIs it could be trialled now. Heck, for all I know they will rest Smith for the last game and let all of Stoinis, Marnus and Green play. Really do think Stoinis brought the game back to Australia today though.

Fair enough to include the T20 on it.
Reckon it’s a quality kit tbh.
Yeah matches our helmets better than those light blue ones did and we have too many blue kits in world cricket as it is anyways. I am happy with how India batted in today's game though, not in terms of the results but the attitude was good. We have been mind ****ed into the MSD style of thinking and taking it deep way too long now. Gotta get back to the basics of staying up to the RRR when chasing in LO cricket. Esp. with this rule of max 4 guys on the boundary till the 40th over.

Virat in the post match presentation said:
From the batting point of view, we had a chat briefly after the game - all of us committed to playing positively and that's why you saw everyone go out there and play with intent. We just need to have a big innings from the top three, 130 or 140, which didn't happen unfortunately. Hardik's innings was an example of that (intent). At no stage did we think we might not get there. We committed to playing positive cricket and we are going to do that going forward as well.

This makes me so hopeful about the direction of our LO sides, even if we end up losing to Aus 6-0 here. It would have been worth it if we can move on from #takeitdeep to #expressive or #intent, however you wanna call it.

tbh when sitting in the crowd, it got like 6 overs in and Burgeinho and I were half joking they’d knock it off in 35 overs the way they started.
HB’s comments re Stoinis with the ball were spot on tbh. Really dragged it back. Was noticeable how both side bowled both sides of the wicket though, save Haze for Aus and Shami for India. You’d back the rest to get better for the run, esp Bumrah and Cummins.

Yeah, I am happy we did not collapse at the face of a huge target and gave it a fair go even with 4 guys back in the hut by the 15th over and us carrying 4 #11s in the side. The make up of the side will improve, hopefully, but if we play with similar attitude and positive outlook, I think we will be even better as a LO side than we have been.

Australia and India are such similar ODI sides though, lol. The resemblance is uncanny. Gun top 3, both sides trialling a promising youngster at #4. Keeper bat at 5, big hitting medium pacer at 6 and a perennial allround "Talent" who bowls finger spin at 7. 3 seamers with one guy who was considered a test specialist being finally given a long run in ODIs (Haze for Aus, Shami for Ind) and a leggie who plays for RCB. :p

Of course, we are missing two of our first choice guys in the XI this series but the similarities are uncanny between the two XIs.

Also, didn’t post on it as I was running out of juice at the time, but that flick for six off his hip by Kohli from Cummins at 144kph just after he’d been dropped is one of the best cricket shots I’ve ever seen.
