the IPL: is it possible to have too much competitive balance?
can't complain! down to the last few games and 7 teams with a real or statistical shot at the trophy.

RCB will be a little uneasy now. DC will be gunning for them to secure their spot. Also, SRH have nothing to lose and everything to gain; their NRR guarantees them the fourth place if they win both remaining games (that's a big if though playing MI and RCB as they are). I personally feel RCB are going to tumble down to no. 4 if not worse (meaning they lose both games and their NRR goes into the red).

All positive in my opinion the only question is an ethical one regarding auctions with players having no choice of where they play once they enter the player pool but there is no doubt it leads to vastly more competitive cricket, the quality of internationals playing and the fact there are 4 per starting XI also ensures no team can create a dynasty where you know they'll win for sure before the start of the season and even if they do the big auction every 3 years disrupts the best teams whilst allowing the weaker teams to strengthen. Is that worth the ethical issues of people being sold almost like cattle once they enter the draft is another question - although I guess franchises are very similar compared to say rival businesses in the real world so you aren't losing out so much as a cricketer.

Can't help but feel KL messed that up by batting too conservatively. Bad toss to lose yes, but it was fairly clear they were 20 runs short

Yes, he overthinks the pacing aspect in T20. No excuse for someone like him to bat at a run-a-ball. Sure, Gayle fired, and they got a good-looking score at the end, but they could have had those 20 runs and some if he had been proactive.

Just seen this Gayle stat

He's hit 10 or more sixes 18 times in a T20 match. In 2nd place are Evin Lewis, Andre Russell and Shreyas Iyer having hit 10 or more sixes in a T20 innings 3 times each.
I mean people call him the bradman of t20 for a reason.

The pitches slowing down has generally played in SRH's favor. They're punching way above their weight; good to see a team with homegrown bowlers posing a challenge.

Yes if KXIP win their last game and SRH win today and v MI. Then it is likely they'll both go through on NRR at the expense of the loser of DC v RCB. That is of course unless whoever wins KKR v RR wins by a near impossible huge margin to make gains on NRR

Get another wicket soon and suddenly its not such a cakewalk for SRH although with no run rate pressure they should still win from here
