Think you'll find a certain poster has been talking up Jamieson for years as real quality. Me. Yep me, who poopooed Wagner as a one-trick pony ball wrecker, said D/N Tests were going to ruin the fabric of Test cricket and actually entertained the idea that Mitchell Santner for Tests was a decent idea.

Geez he looks good at the moment. What a find he's been.

Shoe doesn't fit for Jamieson and probably not the others either - is there even such a thing as a bog standard early 20s FC player? If you're playing at FC level at that age you're pretty good, on an upward trajectory and likely considered to have a shot at playing for your country.

Jamieson's been a story of continual progression rather than overnight success. Always had the attributes to be good but I was surprised how low his bowling average was even when he looked to be only bowling mid 120s outswingers a couple of seasons ago. The story was always, with that height and ability to swing the ball, keep doing what he's doing and lift the pace 5-8km/h to be a real weapon. To his credit he's done that and it's showing in results. Love his wicket celebrations too.

Well to be honest there were still quite a few errant and hopeless ones being sent down by Jamieson when I was watching the Otago R1 game. Certainly a bowler one can give the Raki Weerasundara treatment to. The 'let's leave all his dire play on the cutting room floor' treatment.

That was probably the best hat trick ball I've seen. Mostly the bowlers will opt for bowling a yorker, bumper or a slower one for a hat trick in that order. The age old requirement for a hat trick ball is to make the batsman to play. The one delivered by Kyle is a foot away, maybe 8th stump ball which most batsman in a four day format will attempt to leave. I don't think Kyle would have planned that ball. Maybe a touch lucky? He also delivered from the middle of the crease not wide of the crease. If he delivered from wide of the crease the batsman will play at it. I don't think Kyle would have planned this ball. When things are happening for you invariably something magical happens even if you don't mean it. This ball was a natural variation off the pitch. No way he would have planned that but you know that's cricket and part of Jamieson folklore.

Report from late afternoon EPOO: pitch is flat as usual. Will be an interesting day 3, Auckland lead by 215 and have some useful lower order batters, but know that if 1 or 2 of the CD top 5 get started then they can chase 300+.

Met Joey Field's dad who was proudly watching his son on FC debut. He says 19 year old Joey can hit low 130s when in good rhythm, and has some batting talent not often seen at U19 level as he batted down the order. Was pleased at the NZ cricket resources for U19 players, good coaching and support staff. His picks for U19 players to watch included Beckham Wheeler-Greenall (Otago, batting all-rounder), Kris Clarke (ND, bowling all-rounder), Adi Ashok (Auckland, leg spinner).

Bit of extra seam back in maybe but I think it's a more deliberate inswinger than you're giving him credit for (based on Kippax's evidence and the fact that Jamieson has apparently said he's been working on the inswinger)

Yea that was what the cricinfo article said

"I said to mid-off and mid-on, I'm just going to bowl a big [inswinger] and try to make him play," Jamieson said. "When you are on a hat-trick you have to try and go pole-hunting a little bit, it managed to come back a wee bit and the rest got swept up in the emotion of it. Pretty cool moment."

I mentioned in the other thread how R O'Donnell has a rather weak average for someone initially talked up a fair bit, though he is still only 26. Looking around the domestics there are more batsmen like this than I initially realised.
