Yeah I'm not saying Headley is on their level just saying Smith and Bradman are the only ones who have managed a rate of a ton every 2 games for a long period of tests. And that Headley happened to do it as well over his far shorter career but he's not relevant to my argument
Weekes, Walcott, and Chappell had insane conversation rates too. Sanga's numbers as specialist bat would have to be up there too. Somebody else run the numbers tho.

Whatever it takes!!!
Nah i just wanted to keep it raw but we've entered the slicing up of career arguments
lol... but my post did none of that. I was simply pointing out his Ashes 2019 performance was a level or two above his 2017 India performance. I am not even comparing him to anyone when I say that... Yet you see the need to view it as an half empty cup. :p

Even Weekes n Walcott only managed like 15 each though

In terms of coming close to 26 in 56 tests it could only be Sanga n Sobers i think which might have pulled it off

Well he hit 26 tons in 56 tests from his first to his most recent so let's go with that number. Has anyone hit more than 20 in 56 tests discounting Bradman?
Well it's actually 26 Tons in 73 Tests, keeping it raw, fantastic achievement with only Bradman, Headley and Walcott ahead of him in Tons per innings %

Was that plus trundlers comments discounting the 2014/15 series that made me make my post. CW at the time was going mental over both those performances so it annoyed me to see them both swept under the rug

Played a decade each and averaged high 50s though. That's longer than Smith. The year/match conversion does muddy things up drastically, I admit.

When you look at those fastest to X thousand runs, Smith comes off looking rather impressive but he isn't that far ahead to knock it out of the park, away from guys like Tendulkar and Hammond who did it much longer. You may see it differently.

No 2014/15 was epic but the other 2 were ATG. Nitpicking admittedly but you said the Indian attack was one of the strongest. Fantastic achievement nonetheless, given how much Gavaskar's and Viv's 700+ series on roads against less than great attacks are celebrated.

Hope Smith plays another 300 tests and averages a consistently mediocre 50, taking his overall average down to a measly 52 thus eliminating himself from the GOAT after Bradman debate forever.
