The West Indies side Lillee toured to in 73 was miles from the best side of that time. It was the tour he broke down with stress fractures ffs. Terrible in the Pakistan series though.
I thought Lillee retired in 1983. With all those experience in ten years never made a tour to Pakistan. Wonder why.

is there a reason performances vs India seem to be regarded as so important by the brain dead on here when judging players from the 90s and 2000s? They were a middling side at best for all bar two years of that entire period and never threatened to do anything other than be a speed bump for the better countries.
If some one cannot overcome a mediocre side at their backyard, then the opposing team is not a great one.

Yes, though the series he played in Australia against India was unrepresentative of his ability. He was either green or playing when he needed shoulder surgery.
Issue is no one makes such excuses about Murali, Saqlain or Kumble. They had their fair share of injuries , but their fans don't bring it up as explanation for their poor performance. Murali had a serious shoulder issue, and that ball to Butcher, was bowled in a match where he returned from injury. Saqlain had serious knee issues where he never recovered from. Kumble was quite fir I think and did not have much injuries.

Any one can keep posting loads of apologetic posts, but it comes down to the fact, Warne has sucked against India, home, neutral or away, in Test or ODIs. No other great spinner has such bad numbers against a single team over every condition and every format. And not only that, it is hoe he was dominated as well. Other spinners had been dominated by Indian top order. But people like Ajay Jadeja or Robin Singh or any random Indian batsman turn up and bashed Warne out of park on more than one occasion. The numbers and the way the domination was has to be both taken in to account.

Migara, Warne's shoulder was not a minor injury. It required a full reconstruction. He basically had to learn how to bowl again after it. Players play with minor injuries all of the time and I wouldn't bring it up if it was only a minor injury. It wasn't, it very nearly ended his career and it affected his bowling for a number of years.

If you slice up Warne's career around the shoulder injury, you get his pre injury period (prior to March 1998) where he took 303 wickets in 64 tests at less than 24, his injury period between March 1998 and March 2001 where he took 73 wickets in 23 matches at an average of 38 and his return to form period (after March 2001) where he took 332 wickets in 58 tests at an average of 24.

And his worst figures during that time was against the West Indies who didn't have a great batting lineup at the time. MacGill bowled way better against them.

I don’t know why Lillee’s series in Pakistan is being raised here like its revelatory, when it’s been done to death. Aside from Migara, who curiously thought he didn’t tour there.

Whatever it takes!!!
This is just flat out untrue tbh. The pitches here flattened out in the 2000s because there was a once in a century drought that lasted about nine years.
That is the point. The naturally flattened out decks (and I dont think it is only because of the drought but whatever) suddenly had so much more grass and green on it in that 2011 series. Even Sydney was swinging, FFS.
