Curran's another one of these low to mid 130kph LO merchants that have cropped up in the last 5 or so years. Don't have the pace and get very little lateral movement so they rely on changes in pace and banging it in. Bit like Richardson and Phehlukwayo.
The LO game's changed so much that these guys can find a role in the game by doing what they do. Given they have to focus so much of their training on bowling what they do they don't ever really develop the tools for the longer formats. All part of that larger trend of specialists developing.
But yeah, he's just not very good at what he's supposed to be a specialist in either.
He has struggled starting against spin every time he has batted in middle order

Buttler is like some kind of hack developed to decode T20 batting.

Tough for England, they've now got 4 quality openers in Roy/Bairstow/Buttler/Banton.
I think when Roy's back Buttler goes down to #4 again, then there's nowhere left for Root.

Why would you not want Buttler having the whole innings to destroy the opposition though?
Banton opens or shouldn’t play for me. I still think it was an ok shot choice. Plenty of wickets left in hand. Bairstow has struggled recently up top also.
England are lacking one power hitter in the middle
order right now. When Roy plays they will probably move Bairstow to 4 or 5

I'm fine with Banton being an understudy. It's not like you get to play your best top order in most t20is and batting him at 4 definitely feels pretty round peg square hole. It's been a bit dumb to pretend that Root isn't in the best batting lineup we can put on when we've got two blokes who average in the teens and Curran batting seven

Yeah Root belongs in this lineup, it's just the full strength side that I wouldn't have him in.
Think they will keep picking him in middle order despite him not showing the aptitude for it. Buttler is a great opener but it's a mistake not to have him finishing imo
