Can City do that under FFP? I heard the rules have been temporarily relaxed due to the pandemic.Guessing the situation will resolve itself at somewhere around $300m

Surely it depends on whether Messi's camp is right about the contract or not? If they are then the bird's already flown as he's no longer a contracted player, and his next "play" will be in the first league game for Manchester City. Not surprised by the La Liga ruling. Their worst nightmare would be him leaving the league at this point.
Wonder what Leo's next play here is. Down tools? Already reports that Lautaro will reject Barca because of how they are treating Messi right now. This has legs.
Even if the contract is in Messi's favour can Barca still take it to any court and draw this out? They're the dirtiest and dodgiest cunnies in the game, they won't go down without swinging.Surely it depends on whether Messi's camp is right about the contract or not? Horrible way to treat your greatest ever player. You only need to look at how Silva just bowed out at City to see how you should treat a legend who gave you his best years when he decides to leave, and Messi is ten times the player David ever was.I swear I was reading stories too a few weeks ago how, if Messi were to leave, the board wanted to make sure that he looked like he bad guy, which kind of implies they knew this was coming and this is principally a PR strategy. Those certainly make more sense now...
Did you see that story that said Messi "decided to leave after Koeman told him he'd have no more special privileges"? They're possibly even worse at making up rumours than they are at buying players.I swear I was reading stories too a few weeks ago how, if Messi were to leave, the board wanted to make sure that he looked like he bad guy, which kind of implies they knew this was coming and this is principally a PR strategy. Look how Real dealt with Ronaldo, that is how to do it.Horrible way to treat your greatest ever player. EDIT: also, according to reliable sources, Messi told them he was leaving as early as July. So it's almost certain they knew.
Yeah, remember in 89/90 had big replays against Norwich and Sunderland mid-week, Norwich took longer on the coach. There was talk earlier in the thread of regionalising the lower leagues to cut down on travelling. We (Plymouth) are playing Norwich in the Southern region EFL trophy first round next week. That's about the same distance away as Hartlepool and takes much longer to get there.
