Not surprised by the La Liga ruling. Their worst nightmare would be him leaving the league at this point.

Wonder what Leo's next play here is. Down tools? Already reports that Lautaro will reject Barca because of how they are treating Messi right now. This has legs.
Surely it depends on whether Messi's camp is right about the contract or not? If they are then the bird's already flown as he's no longer a contracted player, and his next "play" will be in the first league game for Manchester City.

Even if the contract is in Messi's favour can Barca still take it to any court and draw this out? They're the dirtiest and dodgiest cunnies in the game, they won't go down without swinging.

It won't get anywhere near 300m in any currency that isn't Zimbabwean.

It's all posturing. For one, La Liga have no say in anything so their statement means nothing. Tebas is a ****head and he's already lost 2/3 of his cash cows, he must be crying himself to sleep looking at the mountains of debt his league in in. Remember when they refused to accept PSG's bid for Neymar because the "buyout clause was only for Spanish teams"?

The truth of the matter is that Messi sees his contract as terminated, and no matter how much bluster Barca have to keep yelling 700m euros, they won't get anything but 1/10th of that at best. Messi has had his lawyers go over the contract with a fine tooth comb and knows exactly what his contractual rights are. If you think otherwise you're delusional. Either Barca accept his use of the unilateral clause that ends their agreement prior to the start of the 20/21 season, or they are forced to acknowledge that his final year has no stated release clause which allows Messi to terminate his deal and have his buyout value set by an independent arbitrator. Considering Ronaldo left at the same age, with 3 years in his contract, for 100m, you'd imagine precedent would have the fee much less than the 100m.

It's all over bar the singing. Enjoy the ride.

Regarding FFP and wages, don't believe what you read. Messi will be on parity with KDB and Raheems new deals (around 375k/w) but with a massive slice of his image rights and a potential personal stake CFG. Apparently, all 42 of City's sponsors have a Messi clause, allowing both sides to renegotiate terms if Messi joined the club. They've been planning for this for ten years just in case.

I swear I was reading stories too a few weeks ago how, if Messi were to leave, the board wanted to make sure that he looked like he bad guy, which kind of implies they knew this was coming and this is principally a PR strategy. Those certainly make more sense now...

Baller finish in the women's CL. Lyon win again but they keep having to fight for it

Credit to Bronze and Taylor but the big story is the Icelander that Lyon signed from Wolfsburg

Horrible way to treat your greatest ever player. You only need to look at how Silva just bowed out at City to see how you should treat a legend who gave you his best years when he decides to leave, and Messi is ten times the player David ever was.

EDIT: also, according to reliable sources, Messi told them he was leaving as early as July. So it's almost certain they knew.

Did you see that story that said Messi "decided to leave after Koeman told him he'd have no more special privileges"? They're possibly even worse at making up rumours than they are at buying players.

So the 700m clause doesn't apply to the 20/21 season? Well that makes things considerably easier. Guessing it comes to around 100-130m now if all parties want to expedite the whole thing and not go through legal goo-ga.

There was talk earlier in the thread of regionalising the lower leagues to cut down on travelling. We (Plymouth) are playing Norwich in the Southern region EFL trophy first round next week. That's about the same distance away as Hartlepool and takes much longer to get there.

I've never been to Norwich but split the drive to Ipswich and back with my mate last season. I used to think the A14 went on and on when I was going to Huntingdon all the time for work. Then I drove to Ipswich

Look how Real dealt with Ronaldo, that is how to do it.

Yeah, remember in 89/90 had big replays against Norwich and Sunderland mid-week, Norwich took longer on the coach.

Perry Groves just said he wouldn't swap Auba for Messi. I mean on goals you may have a point, not sure though, but on finances and everything else it's such an assinine thing to say, mind you messi won't be going to Arsenal. So i might as well say I wouldn't swap Matt Jay for Messi, as it's as likely to happen.
