*Official* Pakistan in England 2020

Whatever it takes!!!
He is already great and that is on the basis of his home performances. I dunno why more excellent home performances will push him up in anyone's rating. Now if you are talking about a 40+ wicket away Ashes series where he plays all 5 tests, then it is a different story.

Also, what is the shame in being a great bowler even if you are not quite ATG? He is still a great of the game and an ATG when it comes to England cricket.

Yeah a lot of people have to revise their opinion of Anderson upwards. It's incredibly impressive to do what he continues to do at 38 for a pace bowler, even if it is only at home.

Better enjoy him while he's around because his dominant performances are more spread out now, Anderson of 2-3 years ago would probably have averaged in the teens vs. this years tourists.

He’s had a couple of off colour spells but his average for the summer would be a bit more like his last few if England hadn’t got spades for hands this series

just looking at some of the pacers who have the ATG tag, Andy Roberts at 25.61 seems to have one of the higher averages from 'full length careers'. Anderson could get within a sniff of that and you couldn't say he's not an ATG then
While I rate Andy Robert's highly, he'd be lucky to get into an ATG WI side with Marshall, Ambrose, Garner, Holding and Walsh around to pick from

So Anderson getting his average under 26 would likely make no difference. Maybe wkts per match and average under 25 is what makes the real ATG pacers stand out

actually I retract the middle order example as I can see how its different. But like Grimmett would never make our ATG XI yet he's clearly an ATG spinner

yeah true i guess im just using the raw average plus great longevity/high number of wickets as points in his favour

I guess the home/away stuff is what stops Mahela from being considered one so I guess fair enough. Sorry Jimmy

Yeah, I need to stop thinking an ATG has to make an ATG XI so point taken.
nah i see what you mean now kinda. like out of Bradman, Ponting, Smith, Chappell, Border and Waugh - I guess all are at least are a chance of making the top 6 depending on the individual's preference where as you think Roberts has no chance to get in ahead of Marshall/Ambrose/Garner/Holding which is fair.

But it doesn't work for Australian leggies or english opening batsmen etc so it isnt a foolproof standard

It was on a relatively flat pitch where the English pacers were neutered but Younis' double has to be up there. The complete and utter domination of England's attack (especially Moeen) in the second half of his innings was glorious.
I was at the Oval for this. Younis had been shaky earlier in the series but in that innings he looked unstoppable, never felt like we we going to get him out.

Angelo Matthews at Headingly was another great innings by a touring batsman to England in recent years. (If 2014 can still count as 'recent'? That match really doesn't seem so long ago...)

Good call; Matthews' win-creating knock is right up there. And yup, the years do fly by at a frightening rate.

Hameed’s made a couple of 50s this season, hope he keeps it up and gets bigger scores to throw his name into the discussion. Burns doesn’t really inspire much confidence.

Overthrows? I don't whether Jimmy still does that thing where team mates have to apologise for ****ing up in the field, and, tbh I'm not actually in favour, but maybe it has its uses.

I think Burns has done pretty well until the last two or three tests, but he always slightly has the feel of a placeholder selection until someone with a higher ceiling comes along.

**** me, Jos shells a dolly as I type.
