I think Pervez Rasool was the first player from Kashmir to play for India and it was a big deal when that happened. Dunno if anyone from Pak side of Kashmir had played for them?

To the OP's question: only if you think lack of access to raw talent (as opposed to how FC domestic cricket is set up, pathways for young players, the structure at grassroots level) is the main thing inhibiting either nation. I see zero evidence this is the case so I'm going to answer "probably not", any more than any other two combinations of nations would have likely "dominated" cricket (that didn't otherwise).

It entirely depends on the era. The main problem is that as either side have become better, the other has become worse.

90s Pakistan were genuinely good but would only have picked up the match fixer and Tendulkar. Now any side would be improved by Tendulkar and it may have lead to them being competitive with Australia/West Indies but they wouldn't have been dominant.

When Australia were at the top in the mid 00s United Indiastan would have probably won at home and lost away to that Australian side with Ahktar being the key addition to a core Indian unit.

In the 80s Pakistan were genuinely good but India would have provided Pakistan with maybe two or three players. Not enough to regularly beat the West Indies.

I genuinely think it would be a competitive side right now too. Pujara, Kohli and Babar make a very fine batting backbone for any side.

Both of them already are very competitive sides, plenty of Indian tests in SA and England were decided by the flip of a coin(both literally and metaphorically), we get Babar and we are winning a couple more easy I think.

ODIs? I won't have Shami there... Bhuvi at 8. And I think Shreyas Iyer would be in there for me too. And if KL makes it to few more games as keeper, him over Mushfiq too as I think KL is a bit of a powerhouse batsman, esp. in LO games.

KL was gonna be a super batsman for us after the Australia test series in India, it was very unfortunate that he busted his shoulder in that series.

Damn it, we need India-Pakistan bilateral cricket to resume. It's a shame that when we regularly had those series in the '00s, they were generally played on some of the dullest pitches known to mankind.

Babar at 5 for India would probably make him a better batsman too. As it is he's in the early Kohli/Ponting stage but learning from the likes of Tendulkar and Dravid would help take him to the next level. He'd get to play more tests and get more of an opportunity to downhill ski.

Getting to play a lot of IPL might improve his big hitting too. Would be pretty handy in LOIs.

Babar is the wonderkid. He has attributes that can make him better than Smith and Kohli even. I really think it is just down to how well he can replicate the mental strength of the ATGs. Suppose that could be true of a lot of players but right now in the game, Babar, in terms of pure ability and talent as a batsman, is on a different level to everyone else IMO.
