The rate at which these two have scored also means that the 2nd new ball is not going to be a major factor anymore in this game.

I’d rather see Wood running in and breaking his bat and getting it down at 90 mph rather Archer loping in at the moment. He’s the only guy we have that bowls quick and looks like he enjoy and wants to bowl quick.

Yeah, if Curran plays it should be for either Broad or Woakes, having all 3 can be a much of a muchness and batdeep may not make sense against a Pak attack that is so varied and can be so good on their day.

Under 50, I heard Warne sneering that any bowler who bats a bit is called an all-rounder in England, but Woakes looks such a proper batsman when he plays well.

Him and Ashwin are so similar. Amazing with both bat and ball at home. Struggle away even though it looks like they have the tools to do well away. Don't make many runs with the bat away either, I know Ash had those knocks in Windies but otherwise, its very little. Both look better than most specialist batsmen when batting well too, try to stay legside of the ball etc.

Should these guys try to accelerate to reduce the possible impact of the second new ball? Only nine more overs with this one.

Nah, just play normally on merit. Eventually you'll get an over where you get the opportunity to cash in with a couple of boundaries. 2nd new ball won't be an issue.

Get within 30 and the fields will be more attacking = more boundary opportunities

No need to take any unnecessary risks here at all.

New ball hasn't treally been that devastating in this match, no need to accelerate, if they keep at current rate will be okay.

Gawd I thought he was out there.

Exactly it's not like we're being choked for runs all of a sudden, we're still doing 3 ish an over.
