Well, if the point is that he has to negotiate very good deliveries better, then it makes sense, but its kinda how he is set up when batting. It maybe why he is the good looking 50s man and not quite the great test batsmen the other 3 from the fab four are but I still have a hard time blaming the batsman when the ball is that good.
That's always been my basic critique of his batting, yes. He's simply too loose outside off stump for a batsman of his talent. EDIT: Oh and he doesn't transfer his weight onto the front foot effectively at times.

Usually got pinned lbw in Australia didn't he?
In some cases. But that was principally because he knew he had a problem outside off stump so started really going across his stumps to try and cover that line a bit more and get it under his eyeline to make the leaves more comfortable. The Aus bowlers, being very good at what they do, spotted this immediately and started firing it in at his pads.

This is true but like I said it reminds me a lot of how he got out a lot in Australia. Very good deliveries, but he just sort of tentatively pushes forward at it and if there's a little more bounce and seam than he expects, he's liable to feed first slip.

I mean. How do you think bowlers get wickets in Australia? Bounce is extremely relevant when you're actually in the middle, having to make these split-second decisions about what to play and what to leave. It's hard to explain but it's definitely no accident that bounce encourages batsmen to nick off when they otherwise wouldn't.
Alright it's unplayable and he deserves no blame for pushing at a ball half a foot outside off.

4th innings chases are sometimes a lottery TBH. Some of the ATGs batsmen have been unspectacular whereas some guys like Younis Khan, Graeme Smith etc. have overperformed in those situations. And then you get knocks like the Kusal Perera one out of absolutely nowhere...

Pope can forever prove himself to be in the Root class and not in the Bell class with a great knock here.
tbh the way Root is batting I hope he can go above that, but the one thing I think put's Pope over bell is his urgency, going for the singles as well as having sumptuous strokes. Why Bell never cut it as a one-day bat.

It might have zipped and bounced a bit more than the previous deliveries off the pitch but it wasn't a spitting cobra type unplayable delivery or something. Anyway, it's done.

Whatever it takes!!!

Think at least with this one, it was a wonderful set up and a great delivery than any big technical flaw on the part of Root. Usually, I agree he does try to play those nothing defences outside off but this was a set up.

That was my first instinct too. It's a quality piece of bowling by the kid. This isn't like the Cummins ones last year when Root got bowled where it looked like amazing deliveries but there was clearly technical failings on Root's behalf which allowed the ball to hit the stumps in the first place.

Anyway, this one could be over in a hurry.
