yea asif got extravagant bounce that i haven't seen abbas achieve, which kinda makes abbas' and philander's success more impressive. successful medium pacers tend to be really tall.

holder is 2.01m, mcgrath 1.96m, asif and southee 1.93m. can't find a measurement for abbas but he's a lot skiddier than those guys.
Would be interested to see if England ever pick this sort of guy ever again. Not saying they would be as good as Abbas but someone like Ben Coad has a similar record to him in county cricket but England have never even got close to picking him.

Two well-set batsmen struggling to lay bat on ball at present. Good luck the rest of the side when one of them goes.

Rizwan is good.

Bowling to fall apart from here. You can't expect these 2 sides to play sensible cricket much longer.

i guess there's a couple of factors scaring the selectors off - the volume of medium pacers across the 18 sides making it hard to sift through the best from the pretenders and the reality of touring australia every 18 months. that first tour of australia is a brutal assignment for a medium pacer and they're vulnerable to looking awful in test crickets most followed stage which can kill anyones career let alone one with the 'trundler' stigma attached.

Don't know why we can't just pick a bloke for home conditions only. When we go to subcontinent we pick two spinners to play. Why can't seamers ever be horses for courses?

First hour was just as tough for Pakistan yesterday. It got easier.
Yeah, they're talking about that on TMS. Apparently some bloke from Lancashire reckons that's always the case at old Trafford.

9 runs off the bat in the first hour sounds indifferent, but I'd credit these guys for batting sensibly.

woakes already is to an extent, if not in selection then certainly in success, though when jimmy or broad retire i would give him an extended opportunity.

Why are they risking these quick singles? I know it worked for Pakistan yesterday afternoon, but it seems unnecessarily risky.

Yep this is all fair, just look at the reaction after pretty much every away ashes. Still you look at a guy like Tim Murtagh just casually bowling England out for under 100 in a Test match last year.
