Woakes can look really pedestrian sometimes
Yeah, when it's not overcast and swinging basically. Anderson and Broad sometimes can go through patches like that also but they're still much more of a threat.

He really can, yeah.

Speed gun has him at about the same velocity as Jimmeh (or close as), but never seems to hurry the batters like Anderson does.

To be fair to Woakes though, he's already had a far more substantial test career than I pegged him for when he first emerged.

Genuinely good bloke too, so don't wanna bag him too much.
Yeah I generally rate him but he looks average when he starts banging it in back of a length

Broad always gets written off then comes back stronger - very similar to Tim Southee. Actually that would be an interesting comparison. Southee would probably only just edge it.

Kudos to Broad. Has looked a much better bowler since he made the decision to bowl a fuller length a couple of years back.

Was driven a couple of times, but kept his nerve and got his reward.

I swear we were having this same conversation in about 2011. I never noticed his length dropping back, but it must have slowly drifted back after that amazing period he had in the early part of the decade, and we didn't notice because he was become a tighter, more experienced bowler at the same time.

If Rahkeem can bat, now would be a good time to show it. You feel WI need to consume at least this session to give their bowlers a semblance of rest.

Dowrich-Cornwall has got to be the biggest weight difference in a batting partnership since Will Jefferson used to bat with James Taylor for Leicestershire.

The 'enforcer' role is certainly a long time ago now. That wicket just there really has become his thing in the last couple of years though.

This might just be parochialism on my part but Broad is better than Southee right?

Missed Archer’s first spell this morning (while managing a rather wretched hangover) did he look penetrative at all, where was his pace at ? Just heard the comms saying England as a whole have been rather sluggish this morning, so I guess no one’s bowled particularly well yet.
