that was in the air for a decade

they focused on sibley v chase a lot, but all the english batsmen have had similar issues with him. if the 'knock it straightish onside' single isn't there, they don't seem to have another shot to rotate the strike against chase safely and holder is using him as a lynch pin to rotate his quicks around.

key is wrong - sibley (and england) shouldn't be aiming to smash chase, he needs single options.
Why arent they sweeping him?

You can tell why Crawley is highly rated even though the runs haven't flown yet like they have for someone like Sibley. He just isn't getting max value from his shots yet.

When Root is back we should bin Denly off :'( and just bat Crawley 3, Crawley has a much higher ceiling than Denly because he's younger and has looked just as effective so far in his career.

Think this will almost certainly happen now.

There is definitely a feeling that the better Crawley plays this afternoon, the less likely Denly is to play anther test.

But I hope they are mindful of binning batsmen for good in favour of a 22 year old. An unnecessary thinning of the herd is unlikely to help.

i don't see it. running down the pitch at the part time offie because he's determined to do the same shot but aerially is...interesting tstl. england seem to be ignoring their square onside shots with their persistence in playing the offie perfectly straight.

big ask for a kid with only a few runs to step up to #3 too

denly has been hard to prise out, which is valuable for a side with limited options.

Worth a punt against your opponents' best batsman, I suppose.
I suppose, reminded me of one of those reviews you end up seeing out of desperation when a guy is on a ton+ and your team is utterly demoralised without much going for the review.

Crawley opened in SA, so it's not like pushing him up to 3 would be totally uncharted territory.

One of them is going to make way for Root - if Crawley gets out straight after tea or doesn't add much more, we probably stick with Denly. If he kicks on a bit, Denly's probably gone next test, but presumably still on the radar if someone forgets how to hold the bat in the near future.

Crawley is a top order bat though, so he could be more comfortable at 3 than 4. I do see the reservations, because Denly does a job, but that dismissal just makes me wonder if it's become mental about going on now.

I think though, if Zak can get over 70 I reckon they'll go with him, and it's probably right.

Think Bess and Denly may play a part on the final day though, which could change things, bit of turn here, can only imagine it will get worse, with the sun out .
