Wood being selected is fine. I don't see the problem people having with him being selected. He was man of match in 2 of the last 3 tests he's played. He took 9-100 in his last test.

As was pointed out on here before the game, the composition of the bowling attack always looked off with both Wood and Archer playing. Woakes or Broad in English conditions instead Wood or Archer would have offered the better attack in the conditions.
I think there might be a case for Wood being reserved for bouncier wickets abroad. For all his pace, he seems fairly docile on the spongier English pitches.

Problem for England is they don't have an out and out all conditions bowler like cummins, haze, rabada etc So they're always mix n matching bowlers trying to find the optimal combination too much.

bess looks a find tbh. i saw a bit of him in sa but don't remember him well, but he looks very tidy plus he can be a bowling allrounder.

Whatever it takes!!!
I have forgotten Lyon's action really but I don't think his hands go that fast through the ball around release time?

Comparing to Bess' action, I mean.

Bess and Lyon are both bowlers who can be put off with the sweep.. Guess there is a risk of bounce with the overspin, but Bess does not get it to drop as well as Lyon, at least right now, and so the sweep should be a great option against him.

Lyon is taller and really goes "over the top" of the ball, Bess seems a more traditional English-style offie to me although the gyrations look similar

This sort of logic annoys me so much. DRS is not a get out of jail free card for bad umpiring!
Didn’t say it was, nor did I say bad umpiring was acceptable. Fact remains, the right outcome has been achieved each time....move on.
