a lot of modern day Pakistani cricketers will have barely played in Pakistan
A lot of Associate cricketers won't have much ODI/T20I cricket in their home nations. I'm guessing a lot of their cricket will be played in places like Malaysia, Oman, Thailand, UAE
Mostly because they stopped being good at ODIs in the late 90s and tests when Ambrose retired in 2000.I had a look, Carl Hooper played 50 here and Lara 52, Walsh 43 but that's about it. It seems like during the 80s and 90s the Windies came out for here for ODI series a crazy amount of times. after 96/97 it was just 00/01 then 05 though so things slowed down
yeah but being played in one particular country more than their own seems pretty odd right? Most ODI cricketers will end up playing more tests overseas than at home unless a home world cup falls during their career.
Definitely, though for short careers leading up to world cups maybe not.yeah but being played in particular country more than their own seems pretty odd right?
yeah it's crazy isn't it. They came out here for 8 summers between 84-96. It'd weird to remember that they were the legit main attraction of cricket for a while, probably even ashes series took a backseat to WI-Aus series in the 80s? maybe?RR's ODI career was 1983-1996. WI would've played shorter bilateral series at home but in terms of going to Oz played in
the World Series Cup (triseries) in 83/84, 84-85, 86-87, 88-89, 91-92, 92-93, 95-96, and 96-97 (would've played in a few final series too). There was also the 1991/92 (co-hosted with NZ), 1985 World Championship of Cricket in Melbourne (some highlights on NZ Sky Sport last month during the lockdown), and a 4-team tournament in Perth during the America's Cup yachting in 1986/7. Richardson must have got to know Australia very well.
Viv 73/187 out here too, and only 33 at home.Malcolm Marshall played 64 of his 136 ODI matches in Australia. His second most frequently played country is his home, WI, where he played only 18 matches !
in the 80s?Definitely. The Ashes weren't as big of a thing when Australia was smashing a mediocre England regularly while the West Indies were the kings. Even into the 90s the West Indies were the main draw cards whenever they were here.
