CA's top 20 batting performances in Australia since 2000

So it was the immense pressure and the huge number of fans that made it great I guess.
He was going to be dropped is what made it great. He was past his best but unlike other favoured sons, was still staring down the barrel despite not having performed for a while. He knew he wouldn't be indulged for as long as he wanted to be if he kept under performing because he realised he wasn't bigger than the team. Really not the kind of pressure his contemporaries from other, lesser nations would have felt tbh.

Looking at his previous form he'd just scored a really good ton in Pakistan the previous series, and while he hadn't tonned up in the ashes til that point he'd still scored 2 fifties and had barely been needed really as Langer/Hayden/Ponting did enough to get Australia to a 4-0 position. And of course that reflects Waugh's ability as captain was still solid

People calling for his neck just because he wasn't dominating England like the top order shows how high our standards were at the time. And Bevan or someone was probably knocking down the door for a middle order spot in a futile effort as well I guess

quincywagstaff

International Debutant
Quinton De Kock's 2016 Hobart ton should be on there; one of the very few bowler-friendly wickets produced in Oz this decade. Smith's 48 undefeated on the opening morning when at the wicket was one of his best efforts too.

Sehwag's Adelaide 2008 ton should be in there. Sure it was Adelaide but on that final day without him reckon India would've suffered same fate England did on that ground two years earlier.

Asad Shafiq's 137 at Gabba should be consider as well.
No love for Williamson's 140 at the Gabbatoir in 2015? Unbelievable knock

Only 20 spots though. Plenty of knocks are going to miss out.

Personally I'm wondering how Gilchrist hasn't popped on to the list 3 or 4 times. I'm assuming the 149* in his 2nd test v Pak will be one of the last few.

Was 99 but I think his and Langer's partnership in that game were the greatest batting I've witnessed. 238 run partnership on the last day facing Wasim, Shoaib, Waqar and Saqlain. Clutch.

Little help from an umpire too didn't hurt

seems like they agree; they picked it as #1
A fine choice. Had completely forgotten it was on Faf's debut too. The story of him reuniting with AB and immediately making a massive impact, then coming back 4 years later as captain to win another series in Australia is really nice.

I'm sure there have been plenty of "better" batting, against some much stronger attacks with McGrath and Warne around for a lot of that time, but it's the context of Faf's innings that makes it.

i think my answer to that question of “if you could go back in time and watch a game fresh” that was the subject of another thread would be the faf game, either of the tied tests or amazing adelaide
