The 'A' team

International Vice-Captain
That is another question I was wondering about - which letter do people think gives the best team? B, G, H, L, M, S, W all look very strong; A, C, D, F, P, R, T are also pretty decent.

Who opens for W? You have the 3 Ws, Walsh, Wasim, Waqar and Warne in there which is pretty OP.

The B team has the best batting and is the best all round. The M team has the strongest bowling attack and is probably the second strongest overall. The S team has some gun players too.

Bob Simpson
Steve Smith

Some W's who opened fairly frequently (and successfully): Cyril Walters, David Warner, Cyril Washbrook, Shane Watson, Kepler Wessels, Bill Woodfull, John Wright. Or you could pick John Waite to keep wicket as he opened quite often; or pick Worrell as an opener (as he was a couple of times).

Waugh twins. At least Steve should make that team.

John Waite could fit as well.

Other players that could qualify - Frank Woolley, BJ Watling, Doug Walters, Kane Williamson.

So my weirdly balanced W's XI is:

1. David Warner
2. Frank Worrell
3. Kane Williamson
4. Everton Weekes
5. Steve Waugh
6. Clyde Walcott
7. Doug Walters
8. Wasim Akram
9. Shane Warne
10. Waqar Younis
11. Courtney Walsh

If a better opener is required, Williamson out and Woodfull in. If you want a real keeper, Walters out and Waite/Watling in.

Love how many quick-scorers there are in that line up.

I couldn't argue with most of the "A" teams listed and I agree, "B", "M" and "W" are pretty classy (not a bad motor either).

I could make a case for a fairly strong "T" team:

G.Turner
M.Taylor (c)
M.Trescothick
V.Trumper
S.Tendulkar
M.Tate
D.Tallon
C.Turner or H.Trumble
H.Tayfield
F.Trueman
F.Tyson or J.Thompson

I've picked 3 openers but could drop one (Trescothick?) for South Africa's H.Taylor (who would bat after Tendulkar). I couldn't split two pairs of bowlers initially - one pair from an early era and two who I had the pleasure of watching (both frightening on their day). If pressed, I'd opt for Turner and Tyson.

Taylor is a better bat than at least a couple of openers you picked, and can easily open anyway.

Statistics don't support your claim. Taylor played 104 tests scoring 7525 @ 43.5 while Trescothick scored 5825 @ 43.8 in 76 tests and Turner played 41 tests with 2991 averaging 44.6 - a pretty close call! I listed Trumper at number 4 (48 tests, 3163 @ 39.0) but, as pointed out, he was also an opener.

Or were you referring to South Africa's Herbie Taylor (42 tests, 2936 runs at 40.8). He was a well respected captain as well.

I can't help myself! Blame it on the isolation.

Line and Length = L + L = two "L" teams.

First XI
W.Lawry
J.Langer
M.Leyland
B.Lara
C.Lloyd (c)
V.V.S.Laxman
D.Lindsay (w/k)
R.Lindwall
D.Lillee
G.Lohmann
J.Laker

Second XI
B.Luckhurst
B.Laird
M.Labuschagne (might replace Leyland in time)
D.Lehmann (c)
A,Lamb
G.Logie
G.Langley (w/k)
H.Larwood
B.Lee
N.Lyon
G.Lawson

Unlucky T.Lock

Any comments?
