I am probably being simplistic but my thinking is something like

Mandatory testing of all players and refs.
Mandatory testing of a select few cameramen
Stream all games from all leagues. Have them every ****ing day. Cheer us up.

Or just bin it off. As long as the whites stay up
There are a few things that could start up again if testing was this widely available, and hopefully it happens, but football is probably a long way back in the queue.

Sounds logical enough, but easy enough for an almighty spanner to end up lodged in the system.

E.g. 2 teams play each other. Then each team plays another match against other teams a few days later. The next day one player from one team tests positive. All 4 teams then basically back on isolation. Then let's say 7 days later another player from each of the 4 teams tests positive. At the very least, that would probably mean all of those teams out of action for another fortnight, if not another indefinite suspension of the league.

Not sure the government would even allow it anyway tbh. Would send a strong "one rule for normal people, another rule for celebrities/athletes/rich people message", which I am sure they are very keen to avoid for all sorts of reasons.

Yeah it depends what the wider conditions are come June. I know suspension is currently only until the end of April but well you know

Yeah I didn't think he had. Tbf if he'd come off a good enough season to make the squad then there was probably a case for picking him over Ince, who was very much over the hill. But playing him on the left-wing is just meme-worthy, and again belies Keegan's reputation for attacking football.
Although it did support Keegan's reputation for not really knowing what he was doing. iirc Wise had started life as a winger at Wimbledon but was playing more centrally for Chelsea. Or maybe I've just made that up. Either way, Wise wasn't international quality, and must have been past his 'best' by 2000 anyway. From here, it looks like the kind of selection that Graham Taylor would have made circa 1993.

Who was Ince even playing for by 2000 anyway?

Middlesbrough was it? Think he left Liverpool in 99 but I could have that wrong

Haha this is absolutely so true. "The kind of selection Graham Taylor would have made" is absolutely one of the most damning assessments I can think of. Brilliant stuff haha.

I don't remember his early career but for Chelsea he was an absolutely filthy CM, possibly the scummiest player I've ever seen.

Wikipedia tells me he was 33 for Euro 2000. He was captain of a decent enough Chelsea team and seems to have had a good season, so I can see how he made it into the squad, but the LW selection is very WTF.

From what I remember he was a very "kicky" player. Not terrible technically, but the kind who just simply wouldn't have the ability to play CM in the Prem these days. His role in the team was just "be a dick and foul people".

The only explanation for him playing LW I can think of was that Keegan was so worried about the LB situation that he felt the need to play someone capable of providing some fairly robust cover just in front of them.

Maybe, but Phil Neville wasn’t in the team for his attacking ability.

Wise played in the 1-0 win over Germany the game before too. It could have been a plan to deal with a specific German threat, then Keegan didn’t want to change a winning team.

Yeah, lots of talk about the quality of players who got picked without any suggestions of alternatives....

Barmby would have been a decwnt enough option. Played on the left in the Sven days quite a bit and always did a serviceable job.

McManaman as well.

Just had a look at the squad, and noticed that there were 5 out and out centre firwards in it (Shearer, Owen, Heskey, Fowler, Philips). Surely 4 would be enough for a 16 team tournament. Seems very odd.
