unfortunate indeed. Think Kumble was similar too in that he had to play his last test injured. IIRC, it was the 3rd test of a 4 test series and he was planning to retire at the end of it but an injury during the 3rd test meant it became his last instead

Amazing how poor the SL batting line up was and yet the same one, with a little tweak was smashing all teams away in less than a year from this game. :laugh:


And Sidhu, respect. WAG. Averaging 42 odd after 89 games. Under rated ODI batsman at least at that point.

Remember growing up and loved watching him bat for the EP Jumbos and even his little meds you used to copy in the back garden. I remember there were advert on his fight with testicular cancer which is after this highlights reel and he recovered and came back and did this which was our highest ODI score till Gazza Kirsten in the 1996 world cup.

Prabhakar's second and third spells were absolute gold. 3 overs for 18 in the first spell. Finishes with 3 for 28 off his 10.

WI were so weird in that World Cup. Poor performance against India, lost to Kenya, beat South Africa, beat Australia once and choked in the semifinal when they should have really won that match comfortably.

Only Lara and Healy seemed to know it even hit the stumps. Amazing bal from a guy who was almost a part timer by that point.


EDIT: was talking about his dismissal off Steve Waugh in the semis. This match was an obvious stinker of a decision.

They had Australia 10/4 or something at one point.. then let them sneak to 200+ (Bevan as usual). Then they looked totally comfortable in the chase with the dew kicking in... and still messed it up. Was so frustrating to watch.

Yeah that was a painful match to watch unfold. Should have been a WI vs SL final in '96. Was the beginning of a series of unfortunate coincidences where the Aus side would get lucky.
