Windies Team Discussion, and Other Related Things Thread

Hetmyer did a yoyo test yesterday and from what I have seen on his instgram page, it appears as if he's passed.

Don't know much of the details...but let's see what will be the official West Indies statement.

100 T20Is for Shemaine Campbell. Another one of Berbice's pride.
We do produce quality cricketers.
She's from my neighboring village of Fyrish, but plays for the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.

At one point, she used to play in the second division men's team.

Congrats on this milestone Shemaine!

Russell and Hetmyer back in the Windies team for the T20Is against SL.

Also Oshane Thomas who was involved in an accident last week (I wonder if he did a yoyo test after the accident).

Now the SL tour is over thoughts are turning to the England Test tour in June. We have a 3 rounds of 4 day regional matches left but a number of people have already made their case. If I had to pick a squad now I would go with:

Jason Holder (c)
Kraigg Braithwaite (vc)*
John Campbell
Shamarh Brooks
Shai Hope
Roston Chase
Shimron Hetmeyer
Darren Bravo*
Shane Dowrich (wk)
Rakheem Cornwall
Kemar Roach
Shannon Gabriel
Chemar Holder
Preston McSween*
Veerasammy Permaul*

I put a * next to places I'm not sure about.

*Opening Batsman - Kraigg Braithwaite. What do we do with him? He can't buy a run 4 day regional cricket and looks so vulnerable. He has made runs in England before but this time he will be a walking wicket. There are no opening batsmen scoring mountains of runs to force their way in ahead of him though. I guess he stays but it is going to be painful viewing.

Back up middle order batsman - They have a few options here. The experience of Bravo who returned to form at the start of this FC season, Joshua De Silva as a middle order/back up keeper or Kyle Mayers as the top run scorer, aggressive batsman and useful swing bowler.

Back up pacer - Holder, Roach, Gabriel and C Holder makes for an outstanding seam attack. But they have decisions to make on the back up seamer. I would go with McSween for the left arm variety but they might decide the pace and promise of Keon Harding deserves a look in. I'm just relieved Miguel Cummins isn't in contention!

Extra spin option - Permaul has utterly dominated this season, even when the pitches haven;t been as helpful as they used to be. Having watched a bit of him, he is bowling with much more loop and variety. I think he deserves a look in. However, they seem to be obsessed with Warrican and might well stick with him.

What do you all think?

Would love to see pooran play red ball as I think he would adapt just fine.
Joseph has his zip back and should be in the squad at least but I am also excited to see c. Holder.
I think the attack at some point could be
J. Holder
Cornwall
Roach
C. Holder
Joseph

Can't believe I've missed out Alzarri! Fair point, that's an error on my part. Add him instead of McSween or Harding. That bowling attack is very strong. Shame the batting is all kinds of woeful.

As I see it Roach, JHolder, Joseph and CHolder are locks. If Gabriel is fit and firing I would definitely pick him, if not I am not sure. Harding (skiddy pace), McSween (southpaw angle), Phillip (also skiddy, quicker than you might think) or Paul (swing and a good yorker) all may be options.

Yep that sums it up nicely. Plenty of excellent options for bowling at least. They'll need to bowl England out for 200 or less every innings though...

The Jagaurs are picking up some quick wickets at the twilight zone.
Raymon Reifer just removed Kraigg Brathwaite, and next over Keemo Paul with the wicket of leading run scorer this season, Kyle Mayers.

Big wickets

4 great players they should have had such Lara and chanderpaul too. And a natural all rounder in bravo. Such a shame only two of the really fulfilled their red ball potential

Sarwan taking the high road here:

"My deep concern, is that young and upcoming players who regard Gayle as a role model, may think that this is an acceptable way of addressing problems which may befall them in their careers."
