Lol that Boult got better just because he looked at some TV replays.
This I agree with fully. The first innings was a definitely white ball shot.In hindsight Virat should have played the warm up game and should have taken off from one day series if he really thought test cricket is important.
The SL test couple of years ago as well. I think we had near 300 runs lead but on the 4th day SL (Mendis and Matthews is it?) batted all day without losing a wicket. We've had some unbelievable batting exploits on this deck on day 4 and 5 last few years. That said from memory one of the days of that test match rained off. No rain predicted for the next two days, unlucky India.Last basin test between these sides the roles were reversed and we know how that ended.
He did turn vegan recently..This is where I think all the things such as Virat's diet, fitness etc is just overrated and exaggerated by media and his fans. That has nothing to do with his run scoring. Fitness is required but being able to see the ball out of the hand no matter the state of the game is the most important. Steve Waugh or Rahul Dravid wouldn't be called gym bunnies but they performed under immense pressure. Slightly different for bowlers obviously, having less fat definitely helps bowl longer spells.
He's as fit as I've seen him but despite that he's getting out now consistently for not much isn't he? He's a gun bat no doubt and one of the very best and his skills are very good hence he gets lots of runs. Nature of cricket is such that you get out in many ways and if you play lots of games it usually catches up with you and you're bound to have some repeated failures at some point in time. Skills at the end of the day gets you out of the rut.
Vihari is looking like he's under massive pressure here, barely seeing the ball out of the hand.
Yeah, in hindsight it seems hard to believe Henry played ahead of him. I guess Henry was officially next in line having played in Hamilton, but did they not think if they were going to leave out Southee they might as well go for a 6'8 guy who would offer something genuinely different to the attack? Was a great short ball from Jaimeson though. Quite a lack of imagination leaving him out for Sydney, though the wayvthat tour went may have been the best thing for him.
