It doesn’t seem like that long ago in test cricket that Boult was tracking Southee down and looking to go a long way past him in the wicket tally. But Timmeh just keeps on keeping on in test cricket. Going to have to be a hard call made going into the second test. They can’t drop Timmeh again (he’ll be very angry). Wagner has to come back in. Be very hard to drop Jameson... I love Boult a lot, but he looks like he needs a bit of bowling under his belt. Maybe he’ll get it in the second innings?

And CDG is very helpful in NZ conditions too. Jeez...

Yes, I think Jamieson has looked NZ's best bowler since coming into the side for the ODI's and he has carried that on into this test. Wish he had played in Australia!

NZ have been somewhat lucky so far. 3-4 edges dropping short and now these two popped in the air and landing in no mans land.

Hmm. There’s something a little bit ABDV about Blundell. Former keeper batsman. AB also opened for a few Tests initially. Defends with a dead bat under his eyes. And absolutely pounces on the short stuff with a quick eye. Seems to be enjoying the unusual bounce in this wicket. And didn’t mind it in Aus either.

We’ve bowled alright, nothing great but not been bad either. If anything, a touch too short. Been a bit of luck for NZ but solid batting from Latham and some nice temperament from Blundell means NZ have got through this period relatively unscathed. The runs will flow later I’m guessing when Ashwin comes on and the quicks tire.

Bumrah surprisingly looked the least threatening.

doesn't look like India have been able to extract as much movement as NZ atm. Bowling a bit short, but also this pitch does flatten out. Probably in for a long couple of days in the field.

Its the problem with Shami. Big Daddy Kane was on nought off 9 balls or whatever and he is struggling with his fingers and in pain when having to play off the front foot and bit unsure about his defence. Shami duly gives him one short and wide. His inability to stick to a length for a length of time is always gonna be an issue when the batting lets India down. When we bat well, he is priceless coz he can get you a wicket out of nowhere. But when the batting has failed and you are looking at the bowling to bail you out, he can be maddeningly inconsistent.

You feel India's small bowling depth could be exploited here. With their 5th bowling choice being a part time spinner, and their best bowler only recently coming back from injury and them being likely and justifiably cautious about overworking him, there could be a lot of overs for Ashwin and a few for Vihari, even though it doesn't look like spin will be too suited for this pitch
