ODI XI by batting average per position (min 50 innings):

Sharma (Ind)
Amla (SA)
Kohli (Ind)
Bevan (Aus)
Matthews (SL)
Dhoni+ (Ind) (Bevan was the top here too but Dhoni at 6 gets the nod over Sarwan at 4 because Bevan's average was lower at 6 than at 4)
Mahmudullah (Ban)
Razzaq (Pak)
Lee (Aus)
Waqar (Pak)
Anderson (Eng)

ODI XI by batting strike rate per position (min 50 innings):

Roy (Eng)
Sehwag (Ind)
Kohli (Ind)
Morgan (Eng/Ire)
Raina (Ind)
Buttler+ (Eng)
Afridi (Pak)
Perera (SL)
Lee (Aus)
Malinga (SL)
Walsh (WI)

Comparing the teams, I think the batting averages team has the best batting, the batting strike rates team has the best bowling attack and the most runs team is the one most likely to win a series.
Raina :(

Was the finisher we needed all these years after Dhoni/Yuvi became ****.

That bowling attack is absolute class.

How awesome is it that Virat has both the best average AND the best SR for the #3 slot.

Mathews at his pomp was a good enough third seamer. Nuwan Zoysa will easily be the third seamer.
SL A (based on Migara's side)

Marvan Atapattu
Kusal Perera
Hashan Tillakaratne
Dinesh Chandimal
Romesh Kaluwitharana+
Russel Arnold
Thisara Perera
Ravi Ratnayeke
Dilhara Fernando
Suranga Lakmal
Rangana Herath

Something of an overabundance of openers here. Was thinking of an all-out twin attack of Kalu & Kusal, but plumped with Atapattu up top, who is also probably the best choice for captain. Tillakaratne provides an anchoring role at 3, before the aggressors step in. Russell Arnold, who I've always rated highly, provides a spin option alongside TPC. I also decided to run with Ravi Ratnayeke over Farveez, with Perera, Lakmal & Fernando forming the rest of the seam attack.

Unlucky: Nuwan Zoysa, Kumar Dharmasena, Upul Chandana, Roshan Mahanama, Rumesh Ratnayake, Farveez Maharoof, Upul Tharanga, Roy Dias

Dunno, growing up I was always used to seeing Pramodya Wickramasinghe open the bowling for SL. Honestly think he won't be a bad shout for 3rd seamer as he could bat pretty decently too.

Pramodya Wickremasinghe. Gun name and awesome bowling action. Wasn't a very effective bowler though, for some weird reason.

Zoysa's greatness comes with his performance against Aussies. Probably the best containing bowler to bowl to Adam Gilchrist. Too much bounce to hit on the up, to fast to pull, and too slow to drive. He was perfect on Aussie wickets. And was no slouch against Ganguly and Tendulkar too.

I think this thread (and the other ATG thread) proves that the Australia/India rivalry is the greatest of all cricket rivalries. When the two sides aren't playing us fans are always in here going back & forth in the most entertaining of ways. Nothing beats it really.

The Poms are also great value, but due to timezone differences they are almost always absent during the juiciest parts. The Kiwis all seem to live on their own planet, chatting amongst themselves. The South Africans are surprisingly quite reserved & friendly. SCC is great representation for the Carribean whilst ***** does his part to represent BD & the non-Test nations.

All we really need is for randycricfreak to return for some biased Lankan POV's & perhaps a few more Pakistani posters (they're all on PakPassion, clearly). But as it stands right now it's Australia vs India all the way!
It’s interesting you say that about the Saffers. Certainly true wrt CW, yet irl I don’t think I’ve met a more arrogant pack of arseholes than the (white) South Africans I’ve come across. Genuinely unpleasant people in my experience, though tbf it’s mostly been in a professional capacity, so they have the ingrained disadvantage of being lawyers as well.

Top cricketer Mathews. Gives a SL all time side some excellent balance with his bowling as well. Between he and Sanath you have a couple of very handy blokes to back up your front liners.

This is counting "opener" as a position; counting #1 and #2 separately you'd have Sharma & Tendulkar in team 1, Roy & McCullum in team 2.

Bairstow is 3 good innings off both teams.

Can't figure out how Brett Lee has ended up in either of those sides. Don't recall him being much good for most of his career barring a few good innings.

Marvan Atapattu
Romesh Kaluwitharana
Kusal Perera
Roy Dias
Russell Arnold
Roshan Mahanama
Farveez Maharoof
Suraj Randiv
Nuwan Zoysa
Rumesh Ratnayake
Suranga Lakmal

would be my second XI.

Asanka Gurusinha, Hashan Tillekaratne, Ravi Ratnayeke, Thisara Perera, Herath miss out. Zoysa is easily the third best ODI seamer we had behind Vaas and Malinga. Maharoof, Randiv and Rumesh R. all can hit it long.
I like the look of this team. I had Dias in my side too but ended up favouring Tillakaratne over him as I felt the side could have used a nurdler to balance out the amount of aggressive batsmen in the side. Dias was class & probably a better choice. I must say that Randiv is a bit of a surprise, would maybe favour Dharmasena or Chandana over him.

Wickramasinghe is quality & I'd have no problem with him in the side. Champaka Ramanayake probably wouldn't be too bad of a shout either.

I can imagine there are an absolute shedload of rude South Africans out there. From personal experience, the Saffer I happen to know best IRL is a great bloke. Plays for my local cricket mob & is always down at the nets helping the juniors out at training. Also a great club man. I also have a couple of female South African friends who are both very friendly. On a related note, somehow I have never met a rude French person either. Though it's been said to me that they can't afford to be rude when they're outside of France itself.

I hate to be the guy who wants Dilhara Fernando in his ATG white ball SL team. Freaking guy was lethal...better than Pushpakumara.

South Africans I've met have been pretty good blokes too. They've all emigrated though so I dunno maybe the good ones leave lol

Only 5 players batted 50+ times at #9 (Lee, Mashrafe Mortaza, Vaas, Vettori and Waqar Younis).

Always felt Lee was a slightly better bat than Warne, Bichel & Hogg. Surprised he didn't bat at #8 more often.
