Yes I give a lot of thanks to Ollie White for getting NZ U19 back out on tour in a big way again. Sure, his Youth ODI average sits at 23.46 after 16 games, but where would they be without him.

Didn't like this one. Pietersen was merely clearing ECB hurdles rather than ICC ones from 2000-2004, so not the best test of the ICC regs. Kieswetter has a Scottish mother, so another one that's not the best test of the regs.

Anyway, team is not out yet. Starts Thursday. I think sufficient waves were made for them to be making the enquiries they probably should've been making in the week after his 327*. If not last season's white ball finals, which were dominated by NZ qualifying players.
Good point. I remember the last under 19 team between 2016 and 2018 didn't play a single series between world cup. That was in a cricinfo article. At least this bunch has had 11 games between the world cup and one overseas tour.

When are they going to announce the NZ A red ball team?

As much as I'm a fan of Ravindra and no doubt he's either performing with the bat or otherwise ball, best to give him break from NZ A. Hope we don't break him before he makes progress. Nothing wrong in getting him to play for Firebirds some ford trophy games. He's probably bowling more than any spinner in the country at the moment and many times at the death. Besides he also bats at the top and often it can go either way. Batting is a tough ask and lot has to go right all time time to be consistently scoring big runs. Fit in someone like Bhula or Finn Allen or Nathan Smith in his place while there is still a chance.

The India A side has many of Ravindra, Nathan Smith contemporaries playing. I remember Porel, Khaleel, Ishan Kishan from the 2016 batch and Rahul Chahar, Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw from the 2018 U19 side.

That's 6 players they are rotating and we have just one from the last 2 editions playing for us. If they are desperate to keep Ravindra in the side, might as well have one or two more from the last couple of batches of 19s.

Given the way T Astle has gone in the A games I expect him to be picked for the one day and test sides. Likely to be the 12th man though in one day and every chance he's going to play the two tests vs India unless Ajaz does really well vs India A. What happens to Somerville now? Will he get to play NZ A?

Talking to myself here but scratch that.... just watched ball by ball of Bhula and Gibson/Wagner combined beat the bat 80% of the times. Wagner went past his bat like 10 times in a row. No shame in that but yeah leave Bhula there, let him gain some good experience playing at this level first.

Just catching up on yesterday's Ford Trophy results and see Ben Horne hit 101 off 73 balls. The keeper-batsmen depth seems relatively good at the moment.
Sweet payback for Horne after being demoted below McClennaghan in the Super Smash final.

Yes, I was thinking of that! Also, while the senior team is struggling it's good to see NZ A winning again against India A. Sounds like a great innings by Chapman and excellent bowling from Jamieson and Patel. Jamieson must be close to an international debut.

Before I forget, wanted to mention an odd thing I saw at the T20I on Sunday....a strapping young blonde lad wearing a Black Caps supporters jersey with "TER BRAAK" emblazoned on the back.

Yep, pretty sure I saw a current Auckland Aces player wearing a personalised mock up Black Caps jersey. Gotta be right up there as far as beta moves go.

He does seem like the epitome of what we were talking about. Why a modern Auckland attack is so often a very tepid attack. Very low in autistic traits.

Yeah but normalcy was never what the likes of Richard, Cribb and the early CricketWeb forum was about. The vast majority of the old posters here would feel shattered if they got 50% on a test as a kid. It'd be a shame if all that quirk was just moronically flattened and ironed out by people who probably were passing grade types, at best.

Worker out on 99 lol Meanwhile Ben Smith hits his second List A century of the season.

Horne picking up where he left off in the last game too while Neesham is taking Canterbury apart

The Otago A v Canterbury A games saw centuries to a couple of promising players. Llew Johnson who replaced Neesham as a 17 year old two seasons ago, but hasn't really kicked on and missed the under 19 WC squad. Also, Nick Kwant who Stead spoke highly of a couple of seasons back.

"He hits the ball a long way. He hits a big ball and plays with no fear. If he gets going, he can take an attack apart and that's what we like about him."

Also, just saw that Sears is back for Wellington today.
Bowling quick, luckily he was bowling when I went at lunch to watch an hour or so. Nothing like watching a bowler hurry up the batters. Obviously and by far the quickest on the park. Without sounding exaggerating he will easily be 140+ on our speed guns and likely 10 more on speed guns outside of NZ. I do think our speed guns are calibrated to be either lower or speed guns outside of NZ are set higher by 10k. The pitch looked very good for batting. Neesh's ball to Todd Astle was a good one, had some good pace on it. He's bowling at good speed and generally accurate. IMO he should be playing all formats. Can't see why can't bowl in red ball cricket similarly. It'll add to the depth.
