I don't mind Pretorius as a bowler, no pace but gets decent climb and wobbles it off the seam (he'd take bagfulls in April and May up here), but when he gets it wrong he looks really innocuous.

That half-volley on Root's pads was the dictionary definition of ordinary.

He is rather like their SCurran imo. Yet to bat the kind of match-grabbing innings that Curran did against India, but he has a good enough first class batting record so he has it in him to be a decent allrounder if not an outright bowler.

Yeah, something in that.

I don't think either would be picked for test cricket as a bowler without their batting, but both serviceable 4th/5th seam options and #8 batsman.

I suppose, a decade ago, we'd have called them "bits and pieces", but that does both a disservice.

Might be it for Buttler, surely got to give foakes a go now. This is actually the kind of situation Buttler should be excelling in test cricket, getting the quick, odi declaration runs.

Been a bit ropey, this innings, hasn't it?

367 feels pretty safe but I'd rather not test it.
Yeah, not been quite the "boot on windpipe" effort I was hoping/expecting.

I bend the knee to no-one in my admiration for Jos, but I think it must be time for him to hit the test pine soon.

Foakes might've had a dodgy FC season with the willow, but he's reputedly the best gloveman we have and Jos's glovework has regressed almost as far as his batting.

Given the amount of standing up our keeper will doubtless have to do in SL, I think the case for Beautiful Ben is a strong one.

This is the situation for Curran. England need to be flexible when Woakes plays and move him up in case of emergency.

Way we are playing it looks like we may be looking to bowl tonight but surely we need to wait for Root to get 50 and out again.

I would send in DE Kock at number 3 South Africa might has well give themselves the best chance of winning match and make proper use of the best batsman in the country.

FAF needs to swallow his pride and bat at 6 4th innings he just going to end missing a straight ball in his current state of mind

Wood averaging 89 with the bat and 14 with the ball in this series, which at the time of writing is a better batting and bowling average than everyone else on either side.

Edit: Aw.
