Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Over the last few years we have seen a number of brain dead decisions by Cricket Australia. I think that there have been enough to warrant a thread dedicated to their treachery.
* Their attempt to "negotiate" with senior players, offering them huge pay cheques in exchange for giving up revenue sharing. This caused the players union to give them the finger, hold an India series to ransom and then get a much higher share of the revenue than they originally sought.
* They chose a $1.2 bn over 6 year deal with Foxtel/7 over a $970 mn over 5 years deal with channel 10, thus keeping most international and domestic cricket behind a pay wall for a mere $5mn per year extra.
* They fostered a culture of win without counting the costs and then over reacted to their players making a very stupid on field mistake by banning their two best batsmen for an entire year.
* They then commissioned a study into how it came about, which pointed the finger directly to the culture of their organisation. They did not act on any of the recommendations and nor did they reduce the bans of the players, even though the report gave them the opportunity to do so.
* Because of the excessive bans to the players, Australia were humiliated at home by losing to India for the first time ever.
* Now, at the peak of the Australian summer, on the last public holiday, for the first time in decades the Australian cricket team are sitting around playing domestic cricket instead of playing an international match.
I'm sure I've not catalogued the entirety of their brain dead decision making over the last few years, but that's a start.
